F.NO.II(12)27/Estt./NACEN/RTI/KNP/2015
DATED: 14.05.2015
CIRCULAR
Subject: Guidelines for Candidates appearing for examination for
Confirmation of Inspectors scheduled from 16.06.2015 to
19.06.2015.
As you are aware the next departmental examination for confirmation in the grade of
Inspectors of Central excise is scheduled to be held from 16.06.2015 to 19.06.2015. NACEN,
RTI, Kanpur has been nominated as the nodal body to conduct the said examination.
2. It would be fair on the part of the Academy to give an idea to the appearing candidates about
the pattern of questions which are likely to be asked in the said examination. For the coming
examination, the Academy has decided to frame the question papers, especially Paper-I (Central
Excise) and Paper-II (Customs) so as to check the horizontal & vertical spread of knowledge of
the candidates. Therefore, broadly, the question paper may contain Multiple Choice Questions
(about 20%); application based questions (about 40%) and theory based questions (about 40%).
Further they may also be asked to draft charging paragraph of show cause notice in specific
situations after identifying the contravention of provisions of statute concerned. Application
based questions may, inter-alia, involve questions on determining assessable value, calculation of
duties, calculation of interest, drawback etc. in specific situations given in the papers.
3. Further, number and choice available for selection of questions for answers is going to be
reduced considerably and up to 40% of the questions may be now compulsory to attend.
4. Although all the papers of the said examination are with books except Paper–I (Central
Excise), many a times, it is noticed that candidates indulge in mass copying. This is so apparent
from answer sheet that sometimes the candidates of a particular centre attempt same questions, in
same order and even the answers match verbatim defeating the purpose and sanctity of
examination. It may be noted that if such malpractice is noticed, both (or more number) of
candidates, having candid proof of copying, shall be failed and their copies would be hosted on
website and supplied to the concerned Commissionerate/Directorate with a request to take
appropriate necessary action against such candidates and those on invigilation duties.
5. It has been noted that some candidates attempt more questions than they are required to do.
The candidates should only attempt those many numbers of questions as they are required to and
mentioned in the question paper.
