This writer, who For years
has L'agrd a battle within
himself against incipient
paranoid, has retrenched in
deciding that a certain amount
of healthy paranoia is probably
a useful thing. ihe value of
having an early-warning system
no doubt outweights the obvious
disadvantages of having to deal
with constant urges to liquidate one's assets and dump them
in a bwiss bank, and to renounce
one's Social becurity number.
btill, there remains the
battle to ke. p paranoia within
reasonable and useful limits,
and that battle suffered a
minor defeat at the hands of one
luorman C. nurphy, Ph.O, in a
letter to the December issue
of PLAYBOY, nurphy, a researcher, writes, "It is my belief
that through electrocoagulation
of the female-mating center of
the sex-behavior center in the
hypothalamus, homosexuality can
be altered and even nade to
disappear. Also, aversion
therapy ccupled with desens—
itization can alter behavior,
though it may not affect the
underlying drive. But, whichever method is used, it is
doubtful that the hetrosexual
encounters that may fallow will

arousal as the previous homosexual experiences."
Nou, this writer would never
dare question the good Doctor's
credentials or qualifications,
for he (the uritee) admittedly
does not knou his cerebrum from
his coccyx, but of one thing
he is as sure as sure can be;
under no circumstances, under
no condition whatsoever, does
he want his hypothalamus
electrocoagulated.
In fact,
he doesn't want ANYTHItyG done
to his hypothalamus, hor is ho
in the market to have H N Y T H I N G
electrocoagulated. Or even
coagulated.
At the end of his letter, this
biest—coast Dr. Strangekiss
somewhat tempers his lurch
toward 198i» by a curious, and
suspiciously ambiguous statament. He concludes "...In all
cases, the client and not tha
therapist should make the decision about a change in sexual
thrust, and then only after
careful consideration of the
alternatives*"
The Doctor fails to enumerate
which alternatives he had in
mind, nor does he suggest in
what circumstances the decisionmaking might occur. I suppose
one might indeed have to think
about it if the "alternatives"
were castration or worse.
Oh, wall. Ulhile we're waiting
for one of these guys to drop
the other shoe, at least we

can keep our paranoia within
manageable limits by keeping
our assets liquid, and keeping
in mind that from Rochester,
at least, freedom-land is just
a short drive or a long swim
away.

meeting,..we like the wide
variety of current, politically
oriented items you print. It's

purposeFul than the usual group
newsletter that just talks
about its own group and
members•
Dur group has only recently
become an organized, recognized
organization, and we're going
through the usual hassels with
funds, meeting places, and most
of all, getting people out!
The smaller student body at
Oswego, and the lack of a city
nearby is part of the cause of
our numbers problem, but the
real root is good old paranoia
and apathy.
The enthusiasm of groups as
together and as active as yours
reaches us all, through the
media and the grapevine. You
point out the injustices that
everybody thinks are inevitable,
and show the ways we can stand
together and fight for ourselveE
