P Reference Guide:
SUMMARY OF FEATURES: The NAPA University / Healthstream Learning Management System
(LMS) allows employees the ability to complete mandatory assigned learning, to search and register
for elective learning, and access educational records. The system also provides sign-in sheets,
attendance reports and the ability to pre-assign courses to individuals or a group of students.
GETTING STARTED: PLEASE PRINT AND SAVE THIS REFERENCE GUIDE
It is recommended that you view a short system tutorial when first logging on. This can be accessed
by clicking on HELP in the upper right corner of the MY LEARNING page and then clicking the
SHOW ME HOW link. Also, an elective course is available using the CATALOG tab, titled “Using the
Healthstream Learning Center (HLC)”.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Internet Explorer (IE) 8.0 or above, Windows XP or above, Popup
blocking disabled, Cookies enabled, Javascript Enabled, Speed: 256Kb/s (32 KB/s) or above,
Screen: 1024 x 768 or Above, Adobe Flash: 11.0 or above, Adobe Acrobat 10.0 or above, SSL
enabled.
Other browsers including Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox may present functionality issues. IE is
the browser of choice for NAPA University.
If you experience problems using the system, please check that your computer meets the minimum
requirements to run the LMS. Under the Help tab, click About the HLC then click Using the Browser

For MAC users, the system may say that you do not meet the necessary specifications. If that is the
case, please attempt to load video before contacting the LMS Administrator.
Logging On:
Option 1: Go to NAPAanesthesia.com
Select NAPA Members in the upper left
corner of the homepage. Click the NAPA
University link.
User ID: Your full First Class email
address
i.e. [email protected]
Initial Password: Last 4 digits of your
Social Security Number. You will be
prompted to create your own unrestricted
password upon initial log in.

*Note: Internet Explorer is the preferred browser
for PCs. Firefox is the preferred browser for
MACs.
Bookmarking Progress: Progress through courses can be bookmarked
and saved.
If you leave a video prior to completion, your
progress will be saved. You will be able to
resume the video.
In order for your progress to be saved, click
“exit” or “exit lesson” once you have finished
your work. DO NOT click the browser red “X” in
the corner of your screen, your work will not be
saved.
All tests must be completed in their entirety.
If you leave a test prior to completion, your
progress will be lost and you will have to start
from the beginning.
Logging Off: 1. When done navigating NAPA University,
click the Log Out button at the top right of page.
*Note: The system will automatically log you out
after 2 hours of inactivity
2 Navigation:
Choose from the main tabs on the menu
bar to navigate the student areas.
Assigned Learning:
Any courses to which you have been assigned will appear in the Assigned Learning section on your My Learning page. Assigned courses are mandatory assignments to complete. Check with
your supervisor if you are unsure of the expectation for completing any course. To begin a
course, click the Course Name link from the My Learning page. Courses will be video-based or
static documents. Assigned courses will feature a post-test at the end of each course. You must
pass the test to demonstrate mastery of the course before it is recognized as being completed.
The Assigned Learning section displays the following information:
Course name: By clicking the course name hyperlink, you have the ability to review course details.
Due Date: The due date is when all elements of the course are expected to be completed, by
11:59 PM EST.
Status Definitions:
• Assigned: You have been assigned the course but have not yet clicked the course name link.
• Not Yet Started: You have clicked the name link but have not begun any part of the course.
• In Progress: You have begun one of the elements within the course.
Elective Learning:
Searching for courses
You can search for elective courses by
clicking the Catalog tab. The Catalog tab
enables searching alphabetically by using
a keyword search in the search box or by
category. All NAPA authored courses that
supplement the catalog begin with
"NAPA".
(i.e. NAPA- Dental Injury)
Selecting a course
Select the desired course to view available
class information, dates and times. Click the
“Register” button to enroll. Course details are
available for courses by clicking the Details
button.
Un-enrolling from a course
You may also un-enroll from elective learning
at any time by clicking the Un-enroll link.
3 Completing Online Courses:
Online Pre and Post Assessments:
Courses within NAPA University may include one or
more learning activities, in any combination.
Some online courses offer a Pre- Assessment test
indicated by the letters (PA) after the name of the
course. Successfully passing the pre- assessment
will exempt you from needing to complete the
course. *Note: If you exit a pre-assessment exam
prior to completing the exam, it will not be scored
and you will have to complete the course.
Learning activities include:
 Static Documents
 Video Presentations
 Pre and Post Tests
Learning activities within a course may require you
to complete in a pre-determined order. You will only
be able to access learning activities in the
prescribed order. Once you have successfully
completed all of the learning activities within a
course, the course is finished and will be
removed from the My Learning page. The
completed course will immediately appear on your
My Transcript page
Transcripts:
Select My Transcript tab to display a list of all
completed courses. A copy can be printed by
clicking Print Transcript in the upper right corner
of the page. You can change the date range to
specify history for certain time frames.
Text Sizing:
Post-tests follow the end of some courses. Both
components need to be completed in order for your
transcript to reflect completion. If you do not pass the
test at the end of a course, you will have to take the test
again from the beginning.
CE’s and CME’s:
NAPA University will have CE and CME opportunities in
the future.
System Downtime:
NAPA University will have regularly scheduled
maintenance. A notice will appear upon login. You will
not be able to login during these maintenance hours.
Please plan ahead if you have to complete an
assignment.
