May 2015 Farewell Concerts, Vocal Pop Concert, Sticks,Strings and Sopranos, GRAMMY Quarterfinalist, Superstate Top Honor,Good Bye Mr. Pobst Farewell Concerts It is hard to believe that the end of the 2014-15 school year is at hand. We wish our graduating Seniors the very best in their chosen career path and that music continues to enrich their lives. Don't miss your chance to see and hear all of our amazingly talented students in the upcoming free Farewell Concerts in the NPAC. Choral Concert, May 12 at 7pm The Farewell Choral Concert is not to be missed! The performance will feature all four NNHS curricular choirs, both show choirs, and the vocal pop ensembles. In addition, special tributes to each graduating senior will be made through media and the concert will conclude with a special performance of an original work written and arranged by senior, Luke Frees. Orchestra Farewell Concert, May 13 at 7pm The Annual Senior Farewell Concert will showcase the impressive growth in technical ability program wide through impossibly difficult repertoire. Solos of Tolya Kuznetsov, Paul Beckman, Audrey Iocca, Taylor Kroma, Aditi Prakash, Anna Smith, Karrington Kim and Liz Risley will pepper the performance throughout with virtuosic solos. Concert goers will also be treated to a video in which animated versions of our seniors will describe their favorite orchestra memories. Admission is free, the experience is priceless. Band Farewell Concert, May 14 at 7pm On Thursday, May 14, 7pm, the Naperville North High School Band Program performs their final concert of the year, entitled the Senior Farewell Concert. As a “thank you” to the hard work and effort that our seniors have done to make our program great, most of the literature for this concert is chosen by the senior class. The concert band will feature the selections Marche from the Love of the Three Oranges, Marche Entracte, and Canton. The Wind Symphony will perform Epinicion, Aquarium, and Ye Banks and Braes O’ Bonnie Doon. Our Symphonic Wind Ensemble will close the program with March to the Scaffold, Australian Up-Country Tune, and Vesuvius. This concert is free and open to the public, and begins at 7pm in the North Performing Arts Center. Come join us as we say goodbye, thank you, and congratulations to our senior band members! North Performing Arts Center Video 2014-15 Vocal Pop Concert Friday, May 15 at 7pm NNHS Show Choirs invite you to their annual Vocal Pop Concert on May15th at 7pm in the NPAC. After a successful contest season, spend the night with High Heeled Harmony and Entourage as they perform a years worth of shows. Sticks, Strings and Sopranos Wednesday, June 3 at 7:30pm Enjoy an evening of great music from classical to rock to original compositions and support the NNHS Tech Department at the same time. This concert is a showcase of extraordinary talent with entertaining, fun and fresh arrangements featuring North students, past and present, and a who's who of accomplished local musicians. Superstate Top Honors On May 9 the NNHS Concert Band was selected as Honor band at Superstate. This means they are automatically invited back next year to perform as the featured band as Honor band. This is the highest honor you can achieve in IL. Congratulations to all of our hard working students and their parents who support them. Don Stinson, Associate Band Director Quarterfinallist for the Music Educator Award A total of 213 music teachers from 194 cities across 42 states have been announced as quarterfinalists for the Music Educator Award™ ® presented by The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation. In total, more than 4,500 initial nominations were submitted from all 50 states. The Music Educator Award was established to recognize current educators (K through college, public and private schools) who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools. A joint partnership and presentation of The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation, this special award will be presented at the Special Merit Awards Ceremony & Nominees Reception (honoring recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Trustees Award and Technical GRAMMY Award) during GRAMMY Week 2016. Each year, one recipient will be selected from 10 finalists, and will be recognized for his/her remarkable impact on students' lives. The winner will be flown to host city of the GRAMMY Awards to accept the award, attend the GRAMMY Awards ceremony, and receive a $10,000 honorarium. The nine other finalists will each receive a $1,000 honorarium, and the schools of all 10 finalists will receive matching grants. The honorariums and grants provided to the finalists and schools are made possible by the generosity and support of the GRAMMY Foundation's Education Champions: Converse, Disney Performing Arts, Ford Motor Company Fund, and Journeys.
