A new requirement was added to the Test214mmStandards for Vented Gas
Fireplaces (ANSI Z21.50 and CSA 2.22) and Vented Gas Fireplace Heaters (ANSI Z21.88
and CSA 2.32). This change will affect every vented gas fireplace manufacturer and their customers (see annoucement sent out August 30th, 2013 for more
information).
This revised test standard states that all vented gas ﬁreplaces manufactured in Canada and the United States after January 1 2015 MUST include a
barrier to prevent children and other at risk persons from coming into direct contact with the hot glass fronts of these fireplaces. Any vented gas fireplaces
manufactured before that date can still be sold after January 1 , 2015 without providing a barrier. This includes existing inventory in warehouses.
