HIGHLIGHTS
The Secretariat activities for the month of April, 2015 are highlighted as follows:
WEEK 1

Letter of Commendation was sent to the
President, Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr.
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, for exhibiting a
Spirit of Statesmanship in the just
concluded Presidential Election.

Letter of invitation to the NMA President,
Dr. Kayode OBEMBE to attend the Annual
General Meeting of the Ibadan College of
Medicine Alumni Association of North
America (ICOMAA-NA) taking place at the
Merriott World Center, Orlando, Florida,
USA on Friday July 10th, 2015 was
received.

Request for Audience from the
Independent Corrupt Practices and other
Related Offences Commission to the
National Officers’ of the Nigerian Medical
Association, on the need to educate
members of the public on Corruption and
enlist its Support in Combating the
Menace was received.

Comprehensive Report from Dr.

World Oral Health Day Celebration in



(NMA) to the 1st Academic Conference

Institute.

Invitation from the Institute of Public
Analysts of Nigeria to the Opening
Ceremony of the Institute of Public
Analysts of Nigeria (IPMAN) Two days
Training workshop on your Laboratory
and your Business was received.

Invitation from the National Handicap
Careers Association of Nigeria (NAHCAN)

Session, in Oslo, Norway.

quarter 2015 FCT Joint TB/HIV TWG,
PPM-DOTS, ACSM and CTBC Meeting
held on the 15th April, 2015 at NUGGET
Hotel Abuja.


Invitation to the first Meeting of the
National Technical Working Group (TWG)
to provide overall technical support to
the Federal Ministry of Health in
operationalizing the NHAct 2014 was
received.

Approval from the Honourable Minister
of Health Nominating Nigerian Medical
Association (NMA) to serve as a member
of the National Technical Working Group
(TWG) of the Health ACT (NHAct) 2014
was received.

NMA President, Dr. Kayode Obembe,
attended the National Technical Working
Group (TWG) Meeting held at Barcelona
Hotel Abuja to deliberate on ways to
operationalize the NHAct 2014

Invitation to Abuja Debate on Ebola one
Year after, with focus on how the Mano
River Union (Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia
and Cote d’ivoire) has fared in managing
and eradicating the plague Ebola from
our Society was received from the
Regional Coordinator Friedrich Ebert
Stiftung.

Invitation to participate and support
Health Carnival Africa 2015. This will
features the launching of Disease free
Africa Initiative, a campaign for Control
and eradication of disease ravaging Africa
through enlightenment and public health
education was received from African
Wellness Excellence Award 2015.
1st Vice President Dr. Titus Ibekwe
represented the NMA President at the
Abuja debate held at the Transcorp
Hilton, Abuja.

WMA Dr. Margaret Mungherera.

Invitation to attend the Nigerian Clinical
trials Summit, 2015 which was tag
Advancing global Clinical trials in the west
Africa Sub region was received from the
Association for good Clinical Practice in
Nigeria.

Invitation to attend the Technical
Working Group (TWG) Inauguration and
Inaugural Meeting of the Nigerian
Clinical Trial, was received from the
Coordinator Prof. Ifeoma Okoye

NMA sent a letter to the Honourable
Minister of Health, Dr. Khaliru Alhassan,
on the Verbal Directive by the Permanent
Secretary Ministry of Health Mr. Linus
Awute to all the Chief Medical Directors
of Federal Tertiary Hospital to Stop
Skipping for Medical Doctors other
relevant ministry was copied.


Committee was held at the conference
room of the NMA National Secretariat,
Abuja.

This is for the purpose of compilation of an NMA
National Directory.

Reminder: State/FCT are reminded that the
process of producing the e-diary has gotten to an
advanced stage. States are obliged to cooperate
with the National Secretariat towards producing a
befitting E-diary.
ANNOUNCEMENT
The States are requested to send details of their 2015
activities and other state activities to the NMA National
Secretariat for inclusion in the 2014/2015 Secretariat
Report booklet.

NMA 2015 Annual General Conference/Delegates Meeting
will be taking place at the International Conference
Centre, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State from 17th
to 24th May 2015.
Chairmen of States that are yet to send in the list of
doctors in their states for the E-diary should please do so
urgently to the National Secretariat Email address.
State Chairmen are expected to send in the names of
Medical and Dental Practitioners that won their elections
recently to the NMA National Secretariat.
