National Speakers Association Message Stick

National Speakers Association
Message Stick
And the winner is... Your speaking business
I hope that those of you who
attended Convention had a f-an-t-a-s-t-i-c time.
We welcome your feedback on
how we can make next year’s
event on the Gold Coast (April 811, 2016) even better. We also
welcome your volunteering to
help organise next year’s
Convention.
There was much to enjoy at
Convention and so many great
speakers. It was also my great pleasure to host keynote speaker
and US National Speakers Association President Shep Hyken and
GSF President Lenora Billings-Harris.
In this edition of Message Stick you can read what others thought
of Convention. A non-speaking related message that I took away
from Convention was from retiring Head of Army Lt Gen David
Morrison AO. He pointed out that the larrikin Aussie soldier, who
has disregard for authority and pommies, is not the only ANZAC
story. He said the untold story is of the indigenous soldiers and
women who served and died too. Lest we forget!
At the AGM we also welcomed in a new
President. Congratulations to Michael
McQueen. I am very pleased to see this
generational change at the top of our
association. I dedicated my term to
putting in place the governance
framework and other system changes to
help the next generation take the
Association to a new level. Michael will
take up his post in August.

At Convention we had a Dutch Auction to give people the
opportunity to bid for a valuable one on one session with some of
our most experienced CSPs. The good news is that we are having
another. Read the details on p5. This provides NSAA with much
needed funds to run the Association. Thanks to those who
volunteer and bid.

Be Your Own Publicist
CEO and founder at Author Marketing Experts, Inc. Penny
Sansevieri says people ask her “Why do I need a publicist?” Her
answer, “Because there are too many stories, too many angles,
and too many opportunities you might miss by not knowing the
rules of the game.” Here are her 8 rules that you can apply to your
own marketing.

and which media is covering your industry.
Understand the importance of local media.
Media leads.
Realise the importance of a subject line.

The US-based SpeakerNet News is
designed to provide speakers with useful
information and a forum for getting your

where speakers promote themselves or
their products, though there is a low-key
section at the end of each issue where
people can pay for a brief ad if they have
something to sell or to announce.
