News & Notes
School News
Dear Parishioners,
The school is closed for Holy Week as
we make our final preparations for
Easter Sunday. School will resume on
Tuesday, April 7. Have a wonderful,
blessed Easter!
God Bless, Mr. Steve Castrogiovanni
The teaching and the miracles of Jesus
were becoming increasingly well-known.
Many people were no doubt talking about
him, wondering whether he might be the
Messiah, and, if so, what that might mean.
So when the word began to spread that he
would soon enter Jerusalem, some excitement began to build.
Agrace to Offer Orientation for
Prospective Volunteers
Centuries earlier, the prophet Zechariah had encouraged
the people of Jerusalem, telling of the increasing glory of the
city and of the Temple. That glory was symbolized by the
description of the king entering to the cheers of the people,
but also humbly riding on a donkey.
Volunteering for Agrace can be a very rewarding experience
in a person’s life. In April, Agrace will offer volunteer orientation for those interested in making a difference in the lives of
patients with advanced illnesses. Agrace has opportunities for
volunteers who would like to work directly with Agrace patients, as well as organizational support roles that do not involve patient care such as hospitality (reception) and in the
Agrace kitchen. Volunteer roles to assist at the Agrace Thrift
Store on Humes Road are also available.
The Gospel of Mark tells how well the Apostles carried out
Jesus’ instructions, obtaining the donkey and telling the
people to get ready.
When the procession was all over, Jesus and his apostles
went to the Temple and then went back to their accustomed place, the Mount of Olives.
Agrace’s next volunteer orientations will be held Thursday,
April 16, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Wednesday, April 29, from
1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Agrace Center for Hospice & Palliative
Care, 2901 N. Wright Road, Janesville. Prior to attending orientation, prospective volunteers will complete an application
and an interview process with Agrace’s Volunteer Services
staff to identify the volunteer’s skills and interests. Call (608)
314-2922 to begin the pre-orientation process.
The events that follow, as told by Mark, can be seen as foreshadowing the Passion. He visited his friends, Lazarus,
Martha and Mary, where a woman anointed his feet.
(Anointing was a traditional burial ritual.)
Judas went to the chief priests to plan the betrayal of Jesus.
Two of the Apostles arranged for a room where they would
celebrate the Passover meal. Later, when they began their
meal, Jesus announced that one of them would betray him.
Then the events of the Passion seem to accelerate. Judas
leaves so that he can rendezvous with the priests and
armed men.
Sacraments
Reconciliation: Saturday 9:30-10:30 am or anytime by request.
Anointing of the Sick: Please call us at 752-7861 when a loved
one has a serious illness.
Then Jesus took the Passover bread, broke it and said, “This
is my body.” Later, he took the cup of wine, which had been
provided for the Passover, and proclaimed it as the blood of
the covenant.
Weddings: Please contact the rectory six months in advance.
One party must be a parish member in good standing.
When they were finished, they sang a hymn and returned to
the Garden of Olives. There, after some intense prayer, Jesus was arrested.
Infant Baptism: Registered members of the parish are welcome to arrange for their baby’s baptism by signing up for
the necessary preparation program for parents.
His trial, followed by torture and the carrying of the cross,
culminated in his crucifixion and death.
Thus happened the passion and death of Jesus, as foretold
in the Scriptures, followed by the Resurrection – the completion of the mystery of our salvation.

Good Friday Collection
Christians around the world are united in a special way
during Lent, Holy Week and Easter. Our hearts, minds and
prayers are also especially aware of the Holy Land.
Our parish, once a year on Good Friday, is called on to
support Christians in the Holy Land. Many Christians in the
Holy Land depend on the collection for their lives.
As a pontifical collection requested by Pope Francis, the
annual Good Friday Collection offers a direct link for
parishioners to be witnesses of peace and to help protect
Holy Places. When you donate on Good Friday, you are
supporting Christians in the Holy Land.
Franciscans and others in the Holy Land are housing and
feeding the poor, providing religious formation and
education, maintaining shrines and parishes, and conducting
pastoral ministry. For more information, visit
MyFranciscan.org/good-friday.
The Good Friday Collection is requested by the Holy
Father. Please be as generous as your abundance allows.
Women’s Cluster Retreat Day
Stewardship
Palm Sunday
“Pilate again said to them, ’Then what shall I do with the man
whom you call the King of the Jews?’ And they cried out again,
“Crucify him.”’
Mark 15:12-13
Jesus told us “whatever you do for the least of my brothers,
you do for me.” Every day we are presented opportunities to
help someone. Every day we have the opportunity to see the
face of Jesus in others and be the face of Jesus to others. Pray
for the courage to stand up for those in need of our help.
**************************************************************
"They began to be distressed and to say to him, one by one,
Surely it is not I?" During this dramatic scene at the Last Supper, we can picture Judas Iscariot, the betrayer, trying to play
up his innocence as long as possible. He knew he had already
betrayed Jesus, and if he joined in the "who, me?" ritual, he
was just putting on appearances. But what about the others?
The rest of the Twelve were deeply disturbed by the idea that
they might betray Jesus. As we know, however, when push
came to shove, Peter's fear of betraying Jesus was trumped by
fear for his own life. "I do not know this man about whom you
are talking," he said in order to protect himself. But notice
Peter's reaction when he realized what he'd done: "He broke
down and wept."
How different was humble Peter's response from that of
prideful Judas, who acted as if he hadn't done anything wrong:
"Who, me?" Both men were unfaithful to the Lord, but only
Peter immediately felt real sorrow, what we traditionally call
contrition, for his sin.
The betrayers in today's Gospel readings are not just these
two men. We also follow the crowd who hailed Jesus one day
with "hosannas!" and a week later nailed him with their angry
"crucify him!" How quickly our faith can turn fickle. For some
of us, it may be easy to condemn the crowd and Judas and Peter, thinking that we would never do such a thing: "Who, me?"
But today, let us resolve not to be so proud as to think we are
perfect disciples. Let us have the humility of Peter who wept
over his imperfections and, ultimately, repented of his sins.
Only when we acknowledge that we need God's help will we
be able to hail him and praise him as he truly deserves.

What’s Happening
Java & Jabber
Market Day
OK, it's really the event formerly
known as coffee and donuts, but updated. Coffee and donuts has been a
tradition for years after mass but has
declined in numbers recently. We are
resurrecting it with the addition of
jabber. Yes! You can stroll down to
the basement after 8:30 & 10:30 mass and talk. And for a
couple dollar donation, eat donuts and drink coffee.
Our next Market Day sale is on Thursday, April 9th . We are
$843.80 short of our $3,000 goal for the school year and, with
only three more sales remaining, we really need your help in
making these last sales strong ones so that we can reach our
goal. Remember that the money is used for student enrichment and in the past the money has gone towards funding
school picnics, computer software and licensing, classroom
consumable supplies and 8th Grade graduation receptions to
name a few. If we are able to sell more than $3,500 in products we will make a 15% profit instead of the usual 10% and
this will help us to reach our goal so, each and every order
placed, no matter how small, will make a big difference. We
really need your help!!!!!
The update is that we are inviting you, our church community, to host a Sunday morning Java & Jabber. This is a
great way to have your group recognized and praised, and
an opportunity to share information and recruit new
members. We encourage everyone to host- school, classes,
Parish council, choir, CYO, prayer groups, families...... Okay
you get the point. We encourage everyone to host, and
more importantly to attend, and support it.
Your group provides the coffee and donuts, whether they
are home made or purchased. What you bring and how
you set up is up to you. We will supply the advertising.
Your invite will be placed in the church bulletin the week
before with signs on church doors as reminders. The success of this program depends on all of us. Please talk to
your group and set a date to host Java & Jabber! Talk a
little. Eat a little. Get to know your fellow parishioners!
