by design as a teenager, Kathleen earned a BFA in Interior Design from The New York School of Interior Design
and established her own firm, Navarra Design, in 1994.
Drawing inspiration from fashion and her travels, she
crafts beautiful yet functional spaces that unfold gradually and highlight thoughtful details.

“Kitchen / Butler’s Pantry / Family Room”
This kitchen cleans up well and creates a gathering place to share a meal and relax with
family.
A traditional style inset cabinet detail takes a turn toward a contemporary look. Crisp
painted cabinets, white quartzite countertops, a mosaic and verre eglomise backsplash
are contrasted by a cerused oak and metal island, deep chocolate colored grasscloth
walls and a dynamic alternating diagonal walnut floor.
The Family Room furnishings and fabrics continue in the same vein with traditionally based
forms interpreted in a contemporary way. Fabrics incorporate warm browns, teal blue with
pops of hot pink. Metal and wood elements in the furniture and lighting create continuity
with the Kitchen elements.

Room and Kitchen at the 2015 San Francisco Decorator Showcase
Designer Kathleen Navarra reinterprets traditional elements for a fresh, colorful space
San Francisco, CA, April 22, 2015--Designer Kathleen Navarra of Navarra Design is thrilled to present
a contemporary kitchen and family room at the 2015 San Francisco Decorator Showcase. Inspired by the
home’s traditional architecture, the designer chose to put a modern twist on traditional details for a crisp
look. Known for her innovative use of color, the designer layered colors and patterns to create a warm
communal space for a family to dine and relax.
For the kitchen, Kathleen updated traditional style inset cabinets with a modern slab door and crisp white
paint. Playing with pattern and materials, she juxtaposes calacatta marble countertops, a marble mosaic
backsplash and verre eglomise panels with a rich brown enameled La Cornue range and richly saturated
brown walls and flooring. The metal and wood bar counter is an unexpected element placed perpendicular to the cerused oak island.
For the family room, the designer chose furnishings and fabrics with traditional based forms, reinterpreting them for contemporary home by mixing color and materials. The variety of patterned fabrics--in a
palette of warm browns and teal blues with pops of hot pink--give the room a playful and inviting energy.
The furnishings and light fixtures meld metal and wood elements, creating a sense of continuity with the
kitchen design.
With her bold use of color, elegant layering of textiles and materials, and new take on traditional pieces,
Kathleen Navarra crafts a contemporary space that is bound to be a classic.
The 2015 San Francisco Decorator Showcase is located at 3630 Jackson Street and will be open from
April 25 through May 25, 2015. The house will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and
Saturdays from 10am to 3pm, Fridays from 10am to 7pm, Sundays and Memorial Day from 11am to 4pm,
and closed on Mondays (except Memorial Day). Tickets are $35 for general admission, $30 for seniors
and students, and all proceeds will be donated to the University High School Scholarship Fund. More
