Navy League Foundation Announces 2015-2016 Scholarship Recipients
ARLINGTON, Va. — The Navy League Foundation Scholarship Program is proud to present its new
scholarship recipients for the 2015-2016 school year. The Foundation received more than 325
applications from students across the United States, and was tasked with making the difficult decision of
selecting five winners for the scholarships to be awarded this year.
Congratulations to our new scholarship recipients:
Rockwell Collins Scholarship: Anthony Furr of Morehead City, N.C.
Anthony will attend Methodist University,
Fayetteville, N.C., and pursue a degree in
chemistry. He plans to have a career in
chemical engineering, forensics or biochemistry.
Anthony’s father served in the U.S. Navy as an
aircraft electrician assigned to Fleet Air
Reconnaissance Squadron One (VQ-1) in Guam
and has continued his service with the
Department of Defense.
Jewell H. Bonner Scholarship: Easton Pittman of Franklinton, La.
Easton will attend the University of Mississippi
in Oxford and pursue a degree in criminal
justice/homeland security. He plans to join the
Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC)
program at the university and serve in the
military after graduation as an intelligence
officer in the Marine Corps. Easton’s
grandfather served in the U.S. Navy during
World War II as an aviation electronicsman.
RADM William A. Sullivan, USN (Ret.) Scholarship: Haley Antoine of San Diego, Calif.
Haley will attend Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y.,
and purse a degree in biomedical engineering.
She plans to continue on to medical school.
Haley wants to give back to the naval
community in which she was raised as a doctor
to wounded warriors. Haley’s father currently
serves in the U.S. Navy.
Harold Wirth Scholarship: Payton Garland, Jonesborough, Tenn.
Payton will pursue a degree in biomedical
engineering and then continue on to medical
school. After college, Payton would like to work
in a research lab and discover new techniques
to treat and manage chronic illnesses. She is the
daughter of a decorated U.S. Marine Corps
veteran.
John J. Schiff Scholarship: Thomas Gibbons, Beecher, Ill.
Thomas will attend the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champagne and pursue a mechanical
engineering degree. During college he plans to
join the Solar Car Team and Formula SAE team
with the goal of building vehicles after college.
Thomas’ grandfather served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II.

Gladys Ann Smith Greater Los Angeles Women’s Council Scholarship: Sara Minor of Abingdon, Va.
RADM William A. Sullivan, USN (Ret) Scholarship: Timothy Kinsey of San Diego, Calif.
Jack and Eileen Anderson Scholarship: Bethany Michalski of Odenton, Md.
John G. Brokaw Scholarship: Katherine Christovich of Woodbridge, Va.
Wesley C. Cameron Scholarship: Michael Merwin of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.
Ann E. Clark Foundation Scholarship: Devin Platte of Eaton Rapids, Mich.
Albert Levinson Scholarship: Emily Parks of Silverdale, Wash.
United Armed Forces Association Scholarship: Danielle Kerr of Suffolk, Va.
The Navy League Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors who will attend college in the
fall. Navy League Foundation Scholarships are available only to children and grandchildren of former
members of the Sea Services and those currently serving. The Foundation currently has 25 endowed
scholarships. Scholarships are awarded for four years and provide $2,500 per year, with the exception
of the Rockwell Collins Scholarship, which is a one-year scholarship.
