April 2015 Hi Members It’s hard to believe that we are planning our first Annual General Meeting (details later in this newsletter). This is open to all members of the club, and will be very interesting with talks by Alastair and Janice Kirk, awards to be made, and a free BBQ!! Membership of the Club has grown enormously with enthusiastic handlers working hard with their dogs each Monday evening, and a good amount of socialising is also emerging!! Our very smart uniforms are getting known around the competitive world with members constantly in the winning lineups. I would like to express my appreciation of the instructors who give of their time to train each Monday, without these wonderful people there would not be a Club!! I hope to get to meet you all personally at the AGM – don’t be shy to come up and say Hello!! Jean-Pierre Derveaux PRESIDENT ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Open to All Members 7.00pm Monday 18th May Rangiora Showground FREE BBQ from 6.00 There will be a talk by Alastair on Dog Control regulations, and how to deal with neighbours and troublesome dogs This will be followed by advice from Janice on the importance of general control of your dog at home. PRESENTATION OF AWARDS FOR THE YEAR TO MARCH If you have achieved any of the above awards please email Janice Kirk at [email protected] as soon as possible. We would like to know of any achievements gained in dog related sports not trained at NCDTC as we would like to acknowledge our clever members!! (Agility, Tracking, Breed etc). Photos please!! Send to Gail at [email protected] as she is creating a special photographic record of these. ACHIEVEMENT Congratulations to Dawn Prattley and Maiyah who, after five years of competing over hills and fields in all weathers, have achieved their Working Trials Championship title!!! A Tracking trial is an event to encourage dogs to make use of their strongest facility, the ability to follow a scent trail over different landscapes and obstacles. The competition emulates the finding of a lost person or article. CLUB SUBS There are still a few outstanding for this year which are now overdue. Please pay these by 13 April. A renewal form with payment details is attached. UNIFORM Orders are being taken for our smart Club uniforms. You will have seen members wearing them on Club nights. We do not hold stock and have to order from the suppliers as required (though we do have a medium jacket and large vest available for sale). Orders to be in by early May. Please see Barbara in the shop for the order forms. SCENT CLOTHS We are looking for material suitable for scent cloths ie winceyette or medium weight cotton. Colour or pattern doesn’t matter. If you have anything like sheets etc, or know someone who may be able to supply us, please contact Barbara at [email protected] or the shop on Club night. TRAINING DATES No training Easter Monday RALLY-O: The year has got off to an excellent start with the introduction of our Four+2 Course. This is four weeks of learning the signs (believe me it takes that long!!), and two weeks of putting it all into practice on courses. Running alongside this, Dawn Prattley is running a Foundation Course concentrating on heel work, straight sits and downs etc. This Foundation Course has proved extremely successful and the results are really showing when people move onto the signs. Dawn has done a fantastic job and there has been some very positive feedback!! At the Club Ribbon Trial in January our members put up very creditable performances in the Pre-Novice class. This was an unofficial class for those who have never been in the ring before, and to give them a taste of competition conditions. Helen and Bob were 3rd in Pre-Novice, Linda and Tess 3rd in Novice A, and Anne and Mac were 3rd in Novice B. Next Four+2 Course starts Monday 13 April: 6.45pm – 7.30pm Novice A 6.45pm – 7.30pm Novice B 6.45pm – 7.15pm Advanced 7.45pm – 8.15pm I would like to thank Ruth Thorburn for her hard work in getting the Four+2 Course up and running so successfully. Gail DISPLAY TABLE: On most Monday nights you will see a very good display of club records, results, photos and awards set out on the table. Gail Hamling is our very astute historian and has gone to a lot of work to organise this display so please feel free to read all about our first year. Training Times: With winter approaching it may be necessary to change some of your training times in order to fit everybody into the covered area. Please if the time allotted to your class does not suit you speak to your instructor. It does become quite crowded inside at times so we do ask you to be patient rather than stand outside in the cold. A further notice will be sent out to you in a few weeks time. Well that is all for now so take care and enjoy your training. Regards Janice Kirk EDITOR RENEWAL OF MEMBERSHIP FORM Date: ……………………… Owners Name: ………………………. Ph No: ………………….. Address:……………………………….
