WORKSHOP ON 'Effective Teaching Methods In Current Scenario'
A workshop on ‘Effective Teaching Methods in Current Scenario’ was organized by
Prabhaav Learnings, an Empanelled Agency with CBSE at Green Park, New Delhi on
24th April, 2015. It was attended by Ms. Monika Bhalla (TGT, English). Ms. Tulika Deb
conducted the training program as the resource person. It aimed at helping teachers to
update themselves on the different trends of the effective teaching methodologies and
inclusion and integration of the 21st century skills in the process of learning.
Through activities, real-life examples, videos and interactions, the teachers were
enlightened on new ways of teaching, with knowledge , skills, attitude and values deeply
embedded in them. Some of the methods discussed were Brainstorming, Mind Mapping
Comparison and Contrast, Debating, Questioning and so on.
The workshop addressed the objectives of teaching and learning, present day learners,
adaptation of course content to the new realities, transmission of values development of
21st century skills and relationship building.

REPORT OF LECTURE ATTENDED
Shri. Suresh P. Prabhu , Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways, Government of India
delivered a keynote address on “Sustainability-Key driver of innovation for energy futures”
under Dr.Satish C. Seth Memoral Futurology Lecture Series 6 at India International
Centre, Lodi Estate, New Delhi. IT was attended by Mrs. Sonika Madan and Mrs.
Shubha Pradhan. Shri Prabhu highlighted the role of carbon emissions on climate change
and emphasized the role of solar energy and wind energy in India . He gave a solution of
using “hybrid energy” in future i.e. solar energy during the day and wind energy during the
night to tide over the problem of energy crisis. The program ended with open house
followed by vote of thanks .

Awakened Citizen Programme Launch by Ramakrishna Mission
Nationwide launch of the ‘Awakened Citizen Programme’; a Value Education Programme
by Ramakrishna Mission was held on 14th February 2015 at Ramakrishna Mission
Centre, New Delhi. The launch was attended by the School Principal (Hon)
Dr.D.K.Pandey and the School Counsellor Dr. Shikha Miglani.
The program commenced with an introduction to the ‘Awakened Citizen Program’, by Mr.
V Shrinivas, C.E.O, Illumine Knowledge Resources Pvt Ltd. He deciphered on the key
themes in the 3 year graded program for classes VI-IX for C.B.S.E affiliated schools. He
confronted the Pavlovian notion of human nature and emphasized that ‘we are the creator
of our own destiny if we internalize the values’. The central theme of the Awakened citizen
program was possibilities with three fold vision - Universal Possibilities, Knowledge
Possibilities and physical possibilities that are at disposal of every child but need to be
tapped.
The introduction was followed by lighting of lamp by Hon Mrs. Smriti Irani, HRD minister,
Dr. Satbir Bedi, Mr. PP Shrivatsav, IAS , Mr. V Shrinivas and Head Ramakrishna Mission,
New Delhi.
Hon Ms. Smriti Irani addressed the gathering with themes of reflection on the degradation
of moral values among youth. slipping away of values from young minds. She spoke
strongly about the need to incorporate Gender Related issues in the program. She
reiterated the need of active involvement of parents for the holistic development of
students.

MOTIVATING TEACHERS IN CHANGING TIMES
A teacher training workshop was organized on the theme of ‘Motivating Teachers In
Challenging Times’, on the 16th April 2015, in the school hall, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am.
The session was conducted by eminent guest, Dr. Jitendra Nagpal ,Program Director
Expressions India, Senior Consultant Psychiatrist at MoolchandMedicity. The guest was
accorded a warm welcome with presentation of a bonsai by School Vice Principal Ms.
Namita Sharma.
The workshop was an interactive session led by Dr.Jitendra Nagpal. It was an illuminating
event and witnessed the presence of the School Vice Principal , Headmistress , School
Consultant and teachers from Primary to Senior school.
Dr. Nagpal emphasized on a new understanding of the education system , nurturing a new
hope . He shed light on the need for a paradigm shift in thought from “Me to We”; in order
to create a child friendly world not only on paper but in action. Quality learners, the very
essential ingredient for education were described as an outcome of interaction between,
quality content , quality teaching and quality learning environment .
Dr.Nagpal guided the teachers through the gallery of time taking them back to their
schooling days which made them very happy and asked the audience to reflect if they as
teachers were able to recreate such experiences for their students . An important self
assessment for the audience was initiated by some very important questions of “Am I a
role model for my students?”, “What is it that I do as a teacher that makes me connect to
my students?”
He further navigating the session drew attention to the need for regular life skills building
workshops on emotional intelligence, organizational skills, technology, community
outreach programs for parents as well as teacher for empowerment to upgrade
themselves for the students of today.
Scientific insights and data shared in the power point presentation revealed that neural
circuits in a child’s brain develop maximum by age of 5 years -at a daily pace, then by age
of 10 -at a yearly pace and after 10 -at yearly or bi yearly pace. These eye opening facts
were at foundation for highlighting the importance of teaching and stimulation in the
primary school years.
Dr.Nagpal summarized the session by a conclusive thought that a school should be the
best home and home should be the best school for the children. Partnership in form of
standard operative procedures for connectivity of students, parents and teachers was
highlighted.
The guest was felicitated with a memento and a shawl by the School Consultant. A vote of
thanks concluded the event.
Overall workshop was an enriching experience for all , which provided a new hope and a
renewed level of motivation for all educators.

South Asia International Autism Conference (SAIAC) 2015
Difference, Not Indifference: The Way Forward
‘Action for Autism’ in conjunction with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment,
Ministry of Health, and Family Welfare & Autism, organized South Asia International
Conference 2015;Difference, Not Indifference: The Way Forward, from 9th to 12th
February 2015 at India Habitat Centre, Delhi which was attended by school special
educator MsAartiSachdeva. The objective of the conference was to bring together
Researchers, Practitioners, Special Educators, People with Autism and families of people
with Autism to share information and build relationships. This workshop was attended by
175 participants from Malaysia, Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka and India. Dr. Thomas S
Weisner and ElizabethnLaugeson, both from University of California, Los Angeles, were
the leading speakers.
It provided a forum to explore latest treatment options and research developments in
Autism. SAIAC 2015 was an occasion to celebrate Autistic diversity through participation
of eloquent international speakers. Four out of nine speakers were themselves on Autism
spectrum. The conference enhanced the knowledge and understanding of Autism; gave
an insight into possibilities for employment and future life of Autistics. It also provided
Autism Researchers an opportunity to share developments in scientific investigation of
Autism.

3rd ANNUAL CONVENTION OF I.A.P.T., RC-1
The 3rd I.A.P.T. Annual Convention, RC-1 was held at Ahlcon International school, Mayur
Vihar on April 15,2015. Prof. J.S Rajput, Padma Shri awardee, Former Director,
N.C.E.R.T was the the Chief Guest. After the formal inauguration of the programme, Prof.
Ajoy Ghatak, IIT-D; DR. O.P Sharma and Dr. U.S kushawah were felicitated by Dr.
Bhandari, Secreatary, I.A.P.T. The session commenced with Prof. Ghatak enlightening
the gathering with well-informed explanation of the nature of light, wave and particle duty
and its impact on modern sciences. Thereafter, a detailed discussion took place on the
extensive research and development taking place in fields of Physics and a wellresearched paper presentation was made on various topics of interest by the members of
I.A.P.T. Dr. B.K Sharma and Dr. V.K. Srivastava, D.E.S.M., N.C.E.R.T., New Delhi also
deliberated their views on the contribution of Physics in modern science. Multiple
innovative experiment like calculations of value of g with help of inclined plane,
calculations of resistance of LDR for different colours of light, home-made capacitor, etc
were shown by the members of I.A.P.T. However, a series of noval experiments
conducted by Dr. Marwah from Punjab University was a real treat to the eyes.
Thus, the programme was marked with an informative and educational insight into the
ground breaking advancements made in the fields of science, motivating the learned
gathering to enrich its spirit of enzuiry and exploratin.

CBSE WORKSHOP ON CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
One day Compulsory Training Programme for Teachers based on the theme – Classroom
Management was organized at Moolchand Medicity, Lajpat Nagar on 14 March, 2015. It
was conducted by Mrs. Geetanjali Kumar from CBSE empanelled agency and “Expression
India”. The various sessions focused on the need for classroom management, the
development and implementation of rules and procedures and prevention of problems in
the classroom. Mrs. Geetanjali Kumar emphasized on positive discipline and the role of
proactive teacher in perceiving and curbing the problem. It was highlighted that a
proactive teacher in can solve many problems with her focused and methodical approach.
The proramme concluded with a discussion on classroom management strategies and
techniques.
8.
INCULCATING COUNSELLING SKILLS IN TEACHERS
A workshop on Inculcating Counseling Skills in Teachers was conducted on 13th March,
2015 in the A.V. Room at MoolchandMedcity by Expressions India. The workshop focused
on the role of the teacher as an educator who offers intellectual, moral and social
instructions to her/ his young learners by virtue of being their mentor.The workshop began
on an inspiring note with Dr. JeetendraNagpal, Programme Director, Expressions India,
emphasizing the role of teachers as ‘Mentors for life and not teachers for classrooms.’
Thereafter, the senior resource- person, Ms. UshaAnand undertook activities designed to
equip teachers with specific skills necessary to enhance their role as counselors. Case
studies and situations were deliberated upon to exhibit how, as teachers, we need to be
more responding than reacting. Teachers worked in groups as they attempted role-play
and enacted scenarios to help identify solutions to routine problems faced bythe students,
their teachers and parents. The workshop was highly informative and enriching.
9.
THE ART OF STORYTELLING
A workshop based on ‘The Art of Storytelling’ was conducted by Mrs Vanmala Mahajan
and Mrs. Shikha Verma on 14.3.15. This workshop was planned to share the experience
of workshop attended at British Council on 1st February’ 2015 by Mrs. Vanmala Mahajan.
This workshop emphasized on the activities that could be conducted to make classroom
teaching learning process more interesting. It helps us to learn how to enhance our
vocabulary, to associate different words with each other and how to make our teaching
more effective.
Teachers enacted few acts of the stories, audience were involved in various activities and
learnt a lot from them.
It was a learning experience, for everyone. The workshop was concluded with valuable
views of our headmistress ma’am Mrs. Indu Jain and vote of thanks from Mrs. Sangeeta
Chugh.
10.
WORKSHOP ON BULLYING FOR GRADE IX –X
A workshop based on the theme ‘Bullying in Schools’ was conducted for classes IX and X
by the School Counselor, Dr.Shikha Miglani in the School Hall on 2nd February,2015.
Power Point Presentation and Videos were used as aids to engage the young minds into
analysis and introspection. Various themes covered were included understanding the
nature of bullying, types of bullying and effects of bullying on the victims. This was
followed by a discussion on the signs of bullying and possible interventions at the student
level. A role play situation was provided to the students and they enacted a Bullying
scenario, showcasing peer mentor intervention.The workshop sensitized the students
towards bullying meted out to their classmates and the need to provide support to them.
11.
INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY
United Nations Information Centre commemorated the seventieth’ International Holocaust
Remembrance Day’ by paying a tribute to the victims of the holocaust. The ceremony was
held at the M.L. Bhartia Auditorium on 27th January, 2015. Five students from our schoolPrachi Goswami & Khusboo Garg From X - F ; Yukta & Kajal from XI E and Yash Jadon
from XI B) accompanied by Mrs. Savita Dhankar attended this event. Fifteen other
schools from all over Delhi and NCR shared the plantform to showcase their solidarity
against the menace of bigotry and intolerance and uphold human rights.
At the outset, Mrs. Kiran Mehra, Director, United Nations Information Centre, stressed
that the anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on our continuing efforts to end genocide.
She read out the official message of the UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki Moon. Next a
film ‘ The last Korczak Boy’ was screened which highlighted the values of mutual respect
and tolerance. Mr. Yahel Vilan, Deputy Chief of the mission shared; the experiences of
his grandparents at the time of holocaust. He emphasized the need to develop
educational programs to help prevent future genocides. In an interactive session with the
audience, he invited queries from the students. Pertinent issues like world peace and
harmony were discussed and assurance of “never again” was given by the future torch
bearers. The students also visited the UN exhibition in the atrium. The event concluded
with a committed resolve to bring peace and harmony in the world through concerted
efforts.

FRENCH WORKSHOP "La stage Pedagogique”
A French workshop “La stage Pedagogique” was organized by Institut Francais en Inde on
31st January and 1st February,2015. It was attended by Mrs. Divya Anand(TGT French).
The workshop aimed at providing solutions to the problems faced by French teachers in
class room situations. The workshop was divided in 3 sessions taken by the French
National who discussed various fruitful activities for the students, which can help them in
learning French in an interesting way like dividing class in small groups and having
activities like conjugation of verbs etc in oral. The workshop was very interactive and it
concluded with an idea of making lessons more interactive by conducting different
activities for students.
