Page 3 “Come Grow With Us” Phase II Needs Education, interpretation and preservation are the foundations of the mission of the Maritime Museum. As the Museum grows in patronage and collections, expansion is imperative. Phase II of our $305,000 Capital Campaign will add 2,500 square foot of space to our Moore Street facility on the historic Fort Johnston site. The addition will house an exhibit construction workshop, create archival and exhibit storage space to properly care for artifacts and materials, expand our classroom and meeting space with a new multi-purpose room, add new restroom facilities for greater ease of access, provide a media room adjunct to our library to enhance the study of our collection of Southport residents' oral histories, and relocate offices to improve traffic flow for visitors and staff. Impact and Benefits Since relocating to our current home, we have seen attendance double to nearly 50,000 visitors annually, coming from all 50 states and 39 countries. Outreach efforts and traveling exhibits extend our ability to share maritime history and culture with nearly 90,000 children and adults each year. The Museum is a Point of Destination and economic driver for OVER 1412 likes! Are you one of them?
