Star Neptune
We will do Reading Street Unit 4 Week 1. The Unit 4 focus
The Star Neptune this week is Tyler. The next Star

skip counting. We will use mental math to add two-digit
numbers. We will add one-digit numbers to two-digit
numbers. We will solve problems by drawing pictures and
writing number sentences. The test will be on Friday,
February 27th.
Conferences
Spring conferences are coming up Thursday, March 19th.
I'm sending home a preliminary conference schedule. It is
nearly the same as the fall schedule. If you want or need a
different time mark and return the schedule or contact me
via dojo, email, or phone. I'll send out official conference
time confirmation letters in a couple weeks.

Write the following words in a list: about,
enjoy, gives, surprise, worry, would. Together
write a story about a surprise party.
Write each spelling word on a card: train, way,
tail, play, day, may, rain, gray, mail, afraid.
Have your child sort the words into piles by ai
and ay. Then have your child read the words
and spell them aloud.
This week your child is learning to draw
conclusions using text and what he or she
already knows. As you read, stop and discuss
how the author leads you to conclusions.

Game Directions
1. Prepare a set of word cards: aim, gain, rail,
main, nail, paid, pain, pail, sail, wait, day, gray,
hay, may, maybe, play, say, stay, today, way.
Sort the words into ai and ay piles. Prepare a
spinner as shown below.
3. If players land in a mud puddle, they must go
back one space. If they land on hot chocolate,
the other player must go back one space.
4. Play continues until a player reaches End.

2. Place markers at Start. Players take turns
spinning the spinner, moving their button the
number of spaces indicated, and then picking a
card from the indicated pile. If the player can
read the word card correctly, then he or she
