Centre for Sport and Social Impact Pacific Netball Partnerships* 2011 to (June) 2014 At its inception in 2010, the Pacific Netball Partnership aimed to build strong, well governed netball organisations that had the capacity to support sustained increases in netball participation whilst contributing to positive social development outcomes. Over the course of the program these development outcomes were refined to: Improving health-related behaviours and reducing the impact of non-communicable diseases. & Developing female leadership capacity within partner organisations’ communities. It is important to note that the developments desired through the PNP – such as increases in sport participation, increases in women’s leadership and health improvements – are outcomes that require improvements in capacity to be established, as well as social and behavioural changes. These can take time to gain momentum and some partner organisations have only just begun to consolidate capacity developments. As such: the findings of this study are promising providing indication that the PNP may need to be supported for several more years to achieve established structures and an embeddedness of sport participation in everyday life in order to realise the broader outcomes that can be fostered through sport. The PNP is implemented in the following countries with partner organisations: Statistics From 2011 – June 2014 the following participants took part in Pacific Sport Partnership supported netball activities: Cook Islands Nauru (incl. 284 administrators) 10,586 Tonga 12,505 29,033 Samoa (incl. 349 administrators) (incl. 351 administrators) (incl. 556 administrators) Total program participation TOTAL = 20,740 22,943 15,952 June 2012 2013 65,473 (to June 2014) including 1,757 administrators 5,838 Kiribati 2014 781 Tuvalu Solomon Islands 352 Vanuatu Australia 9,072 Coaches, umpires and bench officials trained through the Pacific Sports Partnership FSM Papua New Guinea (incl. 217 administrators) Vanuatu 2011 Marshall Islands 4,277 Papua New Guinea Samoa 407 217 June Fiji Tonga Cook Islands 2011 2012 2013 2014 * The Pacific Netball Partnership (PNP) program is part of the Australian Government’s Pacific Sports Partnerships initiative, funded through the Australian Aid program and managed through a partnership between Netball Australia and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC).
