Nevada Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star
Session of Hope and Friendship – 2014-2015
Words from the West
A
s your Associate Grand Matron and
Associate Grand Patron, we are honored to represent each and every one
of our Nevada members and look forward in
continuing to do so in the years ahead.
Some of you may be aware that our session will be called “In the Heart of the Golden
West” and our Grand Chapter will be held
on October 1-5, 2016, in Carson City at the
Carson Nugget. More details will follow in the
months ahead.
Myrtle Chapter #12 held their Friendship
and Honor Grand Officers night on February 10. Each grand officer was given a tartan
apron and then taken on a tour across Scotland. It was a fun trip visiting the various
cities, castles, and seeing the green hills and
valleys throughout the land. Our tour guide
was Worthy Matron Lenelle, who had personally visited all the places we stopped at on our
tour.
Looking ahead a little: mark May 1, 2015,
on your calendar, as this is the Friendship and
Honor Grand Officer night at Esther Chapter
#3 in Carson City. This is to be an “old fashioned gathering around a bonfire” held on a
40 acre pasture. Please come and join the fun
as Esther Chapter knows how to have a great
time.
We were blessed to be able to attend our
neighboring grand chapters of Washington,
Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona,
and California last year, allowing us to meet
our counterparts and form lasting friendships. While attending those various grand
chapters we met many other Sisters and
Brothers continuing the ripple of friendship.
Our travels will continue this April as we are
among those traveling to Italy for their first
Grand Chapter which will be held in Venice, April 17 & 18. We will be accompanying
our Worthy Grand Marshal Sister Sandra K.
Sorani and are looking forward to this adventure.
We look forward to seeing our sisters and
brothers at the upcoming Hands Across the
Borders, official visits, honor and friendship
nights and other gatherings that will take place
during the remainder of the year.
“May God keep you in the palm of his
hand.”

Electa 2
Adah 4
Electa #2 will have a Sidewalk Sale and Open House at
the Lincoln Highway Car Show on 4/11/15, which is a
great opportunity to get to know our community!
Please note that our Official Visit has been
changed to June 15. The theme is “Hunting” and you
are encouraged to wear camoflage. Our meetings are
the 3rd Saturday of each month; lunch is about noon,
with the meeting to follow at 2pm. Electa chapter
always welcomes visitors!
Adah #4 had a special initiation of a mother and
daughter, Deborah and Amanda. Welcome to our
chapter! We were saddened to lose our dear member
Betty Rush, Past Matron and 69 year member. Betty served in the United States Marine Corps during
World War II.
Adah Chapter will be participating in the Second Annual Masonic Family Easter Event on 4/4/15.
Several chapters, lodges and assemblies will be coming
together to put on this community event.
Esther 3
Esther Chapter was pleased to welcome four new
initiates: Angela, Leeann, Del and Stacey as well as
two new affiliated members, Glen and Pat Hallaway.
Carson Lodge has asked Esther Chapter to provide the
dinner at their stated meetings. This has proven a
grand opportunity for us all to
sit and dine together and get to know
each other better.
Our Wine Tasting
was a success and
many have encouraged us to have this
event again. Our
Official Visit was a
success with many
sideliners. In keeping
with the “Honor our
Military” theme, all
veterans were asked to
stand to be recognized.
When those in attendance
were asked to stand if they had a family member serve
in the military, every one stood. We are very proud of
all of our veterans and those who supported them.
We have been bringing our favorite cookies to our
meetings and sharing them with all, as well as sharing
why they’re our favorites.
4
Martha 5
Martha Chapter #5 has been busy. We welcomed
Diana Greer, Carl & Ruth Lairson as new affiliates.
Our
Official Visit was a success even though
WGM Shilora and WGP Don spent
some time behind bars. Thank
goodness the Grand Officers were on the ball
and able to answer
some western
trivia questions
right to earn the
bail money.
We are very
proud of our new
Grand Representatives: Melissa Bibbey
PM, Mississippi in Nevada,
Everett Myers PP, Oklahoma in
Nevada and Angela Palmer PM, West
Virginia in Nevada. We are also proud of Ellie
Duncan PGM, Adah #4 and Martha #5 who received
a commission for Washington in Nevada.
Attendance at the Crab Feed was down but we
still had a good turnout, the crab was delicious and
we even had leftovers which we sold. One half of the
profits from the Crab Feed will be donated to UNR
Cancer Research.
Please join Martha #5 in celebrating their 119th
Birthday and Friendship Night along with honoring our
Grand Officers on Friday, April 24th. We will be holding
a dinner at 6:00pm with birthday cake for desert.

Chapter News and Events
Mt. Grant 24
Nevada 13:
Our chapter delivered items from the Angel Tree
to our shut-ins in December. We have some special
events coming up, to which we’d like to invite everyone:
• May 9, Noon: special Mother’s Day ceremony with
a surprise!
• June 13, Noon: affiliation ceremony
• August 22, Friendship Day and Honor Grand
Officers. This will be a social event; there will be no
meeting this day.
Our chapter is growing! Nevada 13 has been pleased
to welcome new members into our chapter. Our OV
was a success and we learned quite a bit about Nevada’s towns. Our own Iris Maytan, Grand Organist
Emeritus, was feted for her 90th birthday, but in true
Iris fashion, she and her daughter played some beautiful music for us. This was held at Nightingale Hall,
at UNR and was enjoyed by everyone present. Many
of her family members were in attendance. She again
performed for us at our Friendship Night/Honor
Grand Treasurer Night.
Nevada 13 will be participating in the Second Annual Easter Event on 4/4/15.
Argenta 7
In December and January, Argenta members brought
school supplies and books for the COW (Classroom
on Wheels) bus. These items were well-received and
arrangements are being made for our members to get
to tour the bus.
In February Argenta honored Past Matrons and
Past Patrons with a small ceremony. We also had a
Re-obligation ceremony the same evening.
Argenta Chapter #7 celebrated “Honor Masons
and Virginia City Fire Department” with dinner before their February 23rd meeting. We had ten Masons
and three Volunteer Firefighters. After dinner, WM
Sheryl Lang and WP George Lang had
a program recognizing each group for
their continues service to their respective groups… WP George then gave
each honoree a certicificate of appreciation. The WM and WP made a donation
to UNR Cancer in honor of our guests.
In March, Argenta is putting together Easter baskets for domestic violence victims. Argenta
also celebrated their birthday
at the March 23rd meeting and
honored 25-50-75 year members.
At the April 13 meeting Agrenta will celebrate
‘A Smile is your Umbrella’ by bringing food and
supplies for the Senior Center in VC.
April 27th will be Friendship Night. We will have
meatloaf and fixin’s before the meeting and basket
auction and Easter hat parade during the meeting.
Naomi 16
Naomi 16 has been growing! We’ve initiated three
new sisters. Our OV was a success, with many visitors
and a lot of fun. Congratulations to our new Grand
a Representatives: Kathy Dini, Grand Representative
of Scotland and Staci Carlson Grand Representative
of Minnesota. Both of them were duly surprised at
receiving their commissions.

Truckin’ Along... by Shilora Hudlow, wgm
S
isters and Brothers, in case you haven’t been able
to be with the Grand Family for our Official Visits, I thought I would update you on what fun we have
been having.
On January 31, North Star Chapter had their Official Visit at Vegas Lodge in Las Vegas in conjunction
with a Hands Across the Border with Idaho. “Boris
and Natasha” made a great WM and WP and the dinner and entertainment following the
OV were great. Then on Sunday as a
continuation of the Hands Across the
Border with Idaho we were treated
to a wonderful breakfast prior to the
OV for Park Chapter where WM
Lynette and WP Ken presided over
a great OV. What great fun and
fellowship everyone enjoyed with
our Idaho Visitors. We are sorry
that more of our Idaho Sisters and
Brothers could not join us, but those
that were there had a great weekend, and
everyone was able to either get to their hotel
or home in time to watch the super bowl game!
Thanks North Star and Park for great Official Visits.
February saw the Grand Family attending an
Honor night at Myrtle Chapter in Fallon honoring
our Associate Grand Patron Michael, Grand Secretary
Donna and Grand Martha Marguerite. Everyone then
attended a wonderful brunch prior to the OV at Nevada Chapter 13, where we were treated to some history
about some of our great cities in Nevada. This was
followed on Sunday by a delicious breakfast and OV at
Esther Chapter in Carson City.
On the weekend of February 27 & 28 Arizona,
California and Nevada members gathered in Laughlin
Nevada for a charity
event for a great hospitality room on Friday
night and a lovely boat
trip on the Colorado
River, followed by a
Arizona Grand Family
“Starry Starry Night”
formal banquet on Saturday evening. At this banquet
each of the WGM’s and WGP’s got to announce the
2015-2018 General Grand Chapter Appointments for
their own jurisdiction. It was a great time for renew-
ing old friendships and
making new friendships
with our Sisters and
Brothers from Arizona,
California and Colorado.
What a surprise when
California Grand Family
each of the jurisdictions
was presented with a
check for $1500 towards their charities
for the year. Thank
you to all of the
Sisters and
Brothers who Nevada Grand Family
supported this wonderful event.
Then in March we attended an
Honor night at Nevada 13 for our
Grand Treasurer Kim, and
later in the month an Honor night for our Grand
Adah at Park Chapter.
What a great weekend
everyone had at the Official Visit at Sunrise Chapter No 28 in Henderson on Saturday then over the
hump in Pahrump on Sunday for the Official Visit at
Stardust Chapter. A delicious lunch was served prior
to Sunrise and a delicious breakfast prior to Stardust.
Thanks to those chapters for great Official Visits.
Wow, twelve of our Official Visits are now over
and we are looking forward to the other eight during
the coming months. I know that we will have a great
time at each of the Official Visits still to come in
addition to the many Honor Grand Officer nights.
Hope to see many of you in attendance at some of our
functions which you can find listed elsewhere in the
newsletter. ■
