GARBAGE COLLECTION
Each household in New Glarus may put out one 32-gallon bag or container of garbage for pickup each week.
Containers for garbage must be provided by residents. Each additional bag or container must contain a pickup
sticker or it will not be collected. Stickers are available in packets of five (5) at a cost of $10.00 at the Village
Clerk’s Office.
COLLECTION TIMES
Items for collection shall be at the curb or near the street edge for collection by 7:00 a.m. on day of pickup
(including clean-up day). Normal pickup for garbage will be every Friday and recycling as scheduled below.

PICKUP SCHEDULE CHANGES
Any changes in the pickup schedule date will be posted on the Village website: www.newglarusvillage.com and
published in the Post Messenger Recorder as time permits. NOTE: Due to holidays the Dec. 25, 2015 pickup
will take place on Dec. 26, 2015; and the Jan. 1, 2016 pickup will take place on Jan. 2, 2016.
RECYCLE CART – Provided by Advanced Disposal Services
Recycling will be picked up every other week. Each household is required to have a recycling cart. To obtain a
cart or report problems with your cart please contact Advanced Disposal for assistance. The lid on the cart
illustrates correct placement of the cart at your curb. For more information regarding placement of the cart
please refer to brochure provide with cart.
RECYCLING
With single-stream recycling you do not have to sort your recyclables. All recycling must be in the cart, with
lid closed. Recyclable materials should be clean and kept dry. Any item left in the cart has been rejected and
will have a ticket in the cart explaining why it was rejected. The following recyclable materials go in the carts:

Aluminum, steel, and tin cans (labels removed and rinsed clean).
Glass, bottles and jars. NO lids or window glass.
Plastics numbered 1-5 and 7 (rinsed clean) including 5-gallon pails (wire handles removed).
NO food take-out containers.
Cardboard and mixed paper including newspaper, phone books, beverage cases, cereal boxes,
computer and copy paper, junk mail, magazines, file folders, and steel/tin can labels.
It is recommended that you bag shredded paper to ensure a cleaner collection of the material.
E-WASTE
Wisconsin’s electronics recycling law prohibits the disposal of various electronic devices such as: computers,
computer monitors, printers, televisions, VCRs, DVD players and telephones with video displays. Green County
Landfill will accept electronic devices at a fee. More information regarding the E-Waste Law can be found at

BRUSH – YARDWASTE – LEAVES
Brush and branches for curbside pickup should be placed curbside by the first day of each month from April
through October and will be picked up by the Village. Brush can also be dropped off at the brush pile on 2nd
Street (north of Flannery’s)
Yardwaste must be composted or dropped off in the compost dumpster located at the Village Garage at 93 – 1st
Street anytime during the months of April-November.
Leaf Pickup: Leaves will only be picked up with the Leaf Vacuum. The Village will perform this service as
weather permits during October/November. Leaves need to be raked into the gutter for this service.
BULK WASTE ITEMS
Bulk waste items can be disposed of at anytime by calling Advanced Disposal Services at 1-800-583-2510 and
arranging the pickup or hauling directly to the Green County Landfill. For additional information and list of fees
for specific items see the Village website at www.newglarusvillage.com or call Clerk’s Office at 527-3677.
SPRING CLEAN-UP
Spring Clean-Up Day will be held on two non-consecutive Fridays with the Village being divided into two zones.
Zone A will be picked up on Friday, May 15, 2015 and Zone B on Friday, May 29, 2015. A map detailing the
two zones is available at the Village Clerk’s office and on the Village’s website. At this time the contractor WILL
pick up furniture, and other items not considered being normal residential garbage, refuse or recyclables. This
pick up DOES NOT include tires, e-waste (i.e. TVs, VCRs, computer equipment), medication, remodeling or
construction materials.
Large appliances (i.e. stoves, refrigerators, microwaves, etc.) will only be picked up on Friday, May 29, 2015.
Please contact the Village Clerk’s Office at 527-3677 for pick-up of large appliances on this day as those will
require the purchase of an appliance sticker.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
Batteries
Car batteries can be dropped off during normal business hours at: Alpine Auto Electric,
New Glarus Motors and Stampfli Auto.
Compact Fluorescent Bulbs (CFLs)
Accepted at New Glarus True Value Hardware
Tires
Accepted at Green County Landfill. Auto and light truck tires: 5 or less (off rim)-$3.00 each
More than 5 tires, heavy truck and agricultural tires (off rim)-$270.00 per ton. Add $5.00 for
each rim.
Used Oil
Accepted during normal business hours at New Glarus Motors and Stampfli Auto.
Oil Filters
Used oil filters and oil absorbents are banned for disposal into landfills. Oil filters that are
properly drained may be brought to the Green County Landfill at no charge or a salvage yard
for recycling. More information can be found at http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/recycling/oil.html or
you may contact the DNR at (608) 267-7574 or the Green County Landfill at (608) 897-8605.
Smoke Detectors Should be returned to manufacturer. These cannot be placed with garbage or recycling as
they contain toxic materials.
Medications
Prescription drug drop box located in the lobby at Village Hall. You may also contact Green
County Health Department [www.greencountyhealth.org or 608-328-9390] for proper
disposal. Do not flush down the toilet or pour into drains.
Paint
Non-lead paint can be placed with regular garbage provided the paint is completely dry. Can
add clean cat litter to absorb paint.
