CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST Next Wave Festival 2016 Projects Next Wave invites expressions of interest from emerging artists wanting to be part of Next Wave Festival 2016. We are seeking a small number of projects across artistic disciplines that will unfold in sites across Melbourne in May 2016. We will accept applications for projects that are experimental, political and interdisciplinary across any artform/s, however we have a focus on theatre/performance, online works and discursive projects (projects that encourage critical thought within and around the Festival through writing, speaking or other means). Applicants should demonstrate that their project is conceptually and logistically ready for presentation in May 2016. We believe a diverse conversation is a rich conversation. To this end, we want to amplify quiet voices, offer radical propositions and attend to the peripheries instead of the centres. As such, we strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and GLBTIQ artists to apply, as well as artists with a disability. The Festival is being made without one single theme, but through many intersecting lines of thought. This list is the beginning of an attempt to catalogue them: culture ecology intuition politics land history fiction lineage responsibility representation love difference speculation ambiguity power With Next Wave Festival 2014 attracting audiences of 342,000, Next Wave remains a significant moment of exposure for emerging artists. Being part of Next Wave will broaden your network of peers and help you to take your arts practice to the next level. Our programs support young artists to take creative risks, to establish critically-engaged professional practices and to launch their work into a wider artistic and public domain. Our projects transform familiar sites, and activate new audiences. Next Wave also ignites a broader debate about art and its role in contemporary society.
