Strid Part 1: Once I gazed upon a distant shore… Watching sea birds as they filled the sky. Standing out there in the misty air… How I wished that I…could fly… Part 2: The water is wide…I cannot cross o’er… And neither have I…the wings to fly… Build me a boat…that can carry two… And both shall row…my love and I… (Repeat both verses, singing simultaneously) Part 1: How I wish that both shall row, my love and I… Part 2: How I wished that I could fly… Lightning! By Greg Gilpin Part 1: 3rd Grade & 4R and 4MW Part 2: Needham & 5th Grade Sing together Electric fingers reaching, reaching, reaching Skipping, darting, fleeting, fleeting, fleeeeeeeting. * * * Tapping on the clouds Rapping on their shroud of gray…lightning! Lightning…lightning, lightning, lightning…lightning! Now the night is waking, waking, waking See it sparkling, blinking, blinking, sizzzzzzling. Ohhh, what a storm of energy, crackling now, surrounding me! I am not afraid, I am not afraid, I am not afraid, I am not afraid…lightning! Rolling, rolling, then a flash…from cloud to cloud Sneaking, sneaking to the ground…without a sound. Then…then…then…then…then…then, then, then then then then BOOM! (Gasp)! Harburg Arranged by Sally K. Albrecht Part 2: Nuttin’ Nuttin’ Nuttin’ Part 1: Hey, whatcha doin’? Hey, whatcha waitin’ for? Hey, whatcha thinkin’ about? What, nuttin’? No, nuttin’! No, nuttin’! I could while away the hours Conferrin’ with the flowers, Consultin’ with the rain. Hello, flowers! Hello, rain! And my head, I’d be scratchin’ while my thoughts were busy hatchin’, if I only had a brain. I’d unravel every riddle for any individdle, in trouble or in pain. Oo…ah! With the thoughts I’d be thinkin’ I could be another Lincoln, if I only had a brain. Oh, I could tell you why the ocean’s near the shore. I could think of things I’ve never thunk before, and then I’d sit…and think some more. I would not be just a nuffin’, my head all full of stuffin’, my heart all full of pain. Oo…ah! And perhaps I’d deserve you and be even worthy erv you, if I only had a brain. (Interlude) Oh, I could tell you why the ocean’s near the shore. I could think of things I’ve never thunk before, and then I’d sit and think some more. I would not be just a nuffin’, my head all full of stuffin’, my heart all full of pain. Oo…ah! And perhaps I’d deserve you and be even worthy erv you, if I only had a brain. If I only, if I only, if I only…my folks are hopin’…had a brain…!
