FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM: FREEDOM TO BEAR WITNESS
The United States Council of Catholic Bishops (“USCCB”) have designated June 21 st through July 4th as a time
for prayer and action for the preservation of Religious Liberties and conscience rights both here and abroad.
I hope that all Councils make the decision to be spiritually involved with their parish communities during the

Update on Pennacook St Thursday May 19, 2015
Planned Parenthood Thursday morning we saw the abortionist from Vermont arrive in her little car with a bicycle
rack on the back. She has been here before. On a different Thursday she took a picture of Father MacKenzie holding a
large Crucifix as he stood near the driveway.
A young couple also from Vermont parked on the street. The man talked to us while his "friend" was inside. He was
not in favor of abortion and said he was just here for support. Whatever the reason she did not have an abortion and
left crying. It appears she was turned away for some reason.
Manchester PP performs abortions up to 15 weeks 6 days (4 months) and the abortion pill is available up to 10 weeks
of the pregnancy.
Cathy
“You can’t tell me this wasn’t a better country when Bishop Sheen was on television and Nat King Cole was on the radio.”
Last week’s report from Pennacook Street included the observation that a couple of young teenagers who visited the Planned
Parenthood site “should have been in school.” Well, maybe. Or maybe school is where they learned to stop worrying about
prenatal life and love the alternative offered at the abortuary. Given the nature of today’s “progressive” education, there might
even be built into the schedules of our public schools “release time” to allow students to skip a class or two for the all-important
purpose of a visit to Planned Parenthood.
“Release time” for an entirely different purpose was once an issue decided by the Supreme Court, in Zorach v. Clauson (1952). In
a 6-3 decision, the Court upheld as constitutionally permissible a New York law that provided for release time during the school
day for students to voluntarily go off campus for the purpose of receiving religious instructions in their respective faiths. The
Court ruled that such an arrangement did not constitute an “establishment of religion” prohibited by the First Amendment. In
writing the opinion of the Court, Justice William O. Douglas declared, “We are a religious people whose institutions presuppose a
Supreme Being.”
Considering the court’s later rulings on matters of “church and state,” we might wonder how such a controversy might be
decided today -- or if release time for religious instruction is still being granted by public schools anywhere in the land. It isn’t
necessary of course. People can arrange time for religious education in non-school hours, though that might raise the important
question of why the state-run school should have the primary claim on the life and mind of the child.
But the “should have been in school” remark brings to mind a minor scandal of some years ago when students in one of
Manchester’s public schools were brought to the Planned Parenthood facility on Penacook Street as part of an educational field
trip. If memory serves, it was a grammar school. Students, apparently, are never too young to learn the importance of
“reproductive freedom.” We are, after all, a progressive people whose institutions -- the Supreme Court, for example -presuppose a right to terminate inconvenient human life.
Ours is obviously a nation quite different from what it was back in the “dark ages” of the 1950’s. The “good old days” were not
always as good as we sometimes imagine, but there is much truth in the observation offered some years ago by the late
columnist Joseph Sobran: “You can’t tell me this wasn’t a better country when Bishop Sheen was on television and Nat King Cole
was on the radio.”
It can be a better country again, according to the faith of the pro-life witnesses persevering on Pennacook Street, “Redeeming
the time, for the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:16).

Subject: Important NH Legislative Bills -- please contact your Reps!
1) Recent info indicates that NH Senate Republicans may side with the Liberals and are planning to kill HB 560
- Griffin's Law / Rights for Families of Victims of Fetal Homicide - in an attempt to gain political favor / look
"moderate." (The Senate's fetal homicide law, SB 40, had originally only protected "viable" babies. Now SB
40 has been amended by the house to match HB 560, meaning both laws now recognize babies who have
been killed in utero as people with rights from 8 weeks on.) Neither is a perfect bill (since they don't
recognize this right form conception on), but they are a beginning and we need your support to keep them
both alive.
Please write to the state senate to ask them to keep HB 560 alive.
http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/Senate/members/senate_roster.aspx
Please ask our Reps. to support the AMENDED version of SB 40.

2) Very soon Executive Councilor Christopher Sununu has promised to approve nearly $900,000 in funding
for NH Planned Parenthood! He is the deciding vote and a Republican. He's getting 20 postcards a day asking
him to vote against this abuse of taxpayer money but remains undeterred. You can reach him here:

PARENTS ARE THE ONLY PROTECTORS OF THEIR CHILDREN
The following is from an address given at the Rome Life Forum and at the seminar for pro-life
leaders preceding it in Rome on 8th and 9th May by Dr Thomas Ward. Dr. Ward is the founder
and former President of the National Association of Catholic Families (NACF), which is a
Page 10 of 13
member of the Voice of the Family coalition. He is also a corresponding member of the
Pontifical Academy for Life.
In his address Dr. Ward explains the history of a wide range of attacks on the right of parents
to be the primary educators of their children. In the words of St John Paul II, he reminds us
that:
"We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has gone
through... We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-Church,
of the Gospel and the anti-Gospel. This confrontation lies within the plans of divine
providence. It is a trial which the whole Church… must take up."
Dr Ward explains that this "greatest confrontation humanity has ever known leaves parents
the only protectors of their children." While discussing the most serious attacks on parental
rights in different countries, he argues that "[i]ncreasingly good parents will have little moral
alternative to civil disobedience and indeed imprisonment."
The removal of parent's rights started with contraception, Dr Ward argues:
"Forty years of experience as a family doctor with a special interest in actively defending the
family have left me in no doubt that the heart of this Culture of Death is the artificial
separation in sexual intercourse of life, the procreative from love, the unitive by
contraception."
He continues:
"This separation of life from love has spread from contraception to in vitro fertilization and
now logically and even theologically to homosexual "marriage"."
In the light of Humanae Vitae teaching clearly that "the inseparable connection, willed by God
and unable to be broken by man on his own initiative, between the two meanings of the
conjugal act: the unitive meaning and the procreative meaning", Dr Ward argues that as a
result of the rejection of this truth "generations have been lost to the Church":
"Our children are paying an enormous price for the silence, obfuscation and political
accommodations of so many of our Bishops. Yes our children have paid for their policies."
Viva Jesus.
God Bless,
Jim Preisendorfer, State Family Director
