2015 New Jersey Association of School Librarians Executive Board Elections The New Jersey Association of School Librarians Nominations Committee is proud to announce the 2015 slate of candidates. The committee sincerely thanks these candidates who have stepped forward to run for these positions and give their time to NJASL. Current members of NJASL are eligible to vote beginning on Monday, March 16, 2015 with the voting ending on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Please vote only once for the candidate of your choice. Serving on the Nominations/Elections Committee are Pam Gunter, Janet Clark, Bruce Duboff, Christine Cucci, and Fran King. Thank you to the committee for their hard work and dedication to the process of selecting a slate of candidates by using NJASL by-laws as our guide. Vice President Lisa Bakanas Lisa Bakanas has been a School Library Media Specialist for 8 years at Cherokee High School in Marlton, NJ. Prior to becoming a librarian Lisa was a Business Systems Analyst and Project Manager at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. After leaving Jefferson to raise her three boys, she received her Master of Arts in School and Public Librarianship from Rowan University. She received the NJASL Villy Gandhi award in 2011 and became an Executive Board member of NJASL in 2012, serving as Corresponding Secretary. The past two years she has served on the NJASL Executive Board as Member-at-large, co-chairing the last two NJASL spring meetings and volunteering on many NJASL committees. Secretary Michelle McGrievey Michelle McGreivey has been a school library media specialist at Hoboken High School in Hoboken, NJ since 2002. She has also served as her district webmaster since 2006. Prior to that, she worked in a variety of public, academic and special libraries in New Jersey and other states. Past employment includes St. Mary Hospital Library (Hoboken), St. Francis School of Nursing Library (Jersey City), Hoboken Public Library, Charleston County Library (SC), Post and Courier Newspaper Library (Charleston, SC), The Citadel’s Daniel Library (Charleston, SC), and Jefferson Parish Library (LA). Michelle attended SUNY Albany in Albany, NY where she earned her BA in Russian language and literature in 1987 and her MLS in 1990. She took classes at Rutgers and St. Peter’s College to receive her school library certification. Prior to serving as secretary of NJASL in 2014-15, Michelle managed the NJASL regular and board listservs for several years. She was named the Hoboken High School Teacher of the Year in 2011-2012. Michelle served on the programs committee for the NJASL Conference in 2010. Michelle also served on the validation committee for several NJASL conferences. Michelle values her participation in NJASL and appreciates the many ways in which the organization provides value to our members. Michelle also serves on the board of directors of LibraryLinkNJ. Michelle is originally from New Orleans. She is married with two children, two cats, and a constantly changing array of foster kittens from Companion Animal Placement of Hoboken. She enjoys sewing and other crafts and reading, of course. Member-at-Large Elizabeth Ullrich I earned my Master of Educational Technology degree and Associate’s degree in Library Sciences from Montclair State University, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Delaware. I have taught in the classroom as a second grade, third grade and fifth grade teacher. I then became the library media specialist in an elementary school before coming to my current position as a middle school library teacher in Upper Saddle River.I have been named Teacher of the Year in two different districts, once as a classroom teacher and once as the librarian. I am co-chair of the New Members Committee, the chair of the Battle of the Books selection committee, the co-president of the Bergen Passaic Association of School Librarians, and I have presented at two NJASL conferences. I look forward to becoming more involved in NJASL in the next chapter of my life. ISTE Representative Renee Rogers Renee Rogers (MLIS, MPH) is in her 5th year as the librarian at Steinert High School in Hamilton Township. Renee is a vocal advocate for school libraries and educational technology, serving on several building and district-level technology committees. She has written for School Library Monthly, and presented conference sessions and webinars for her district, NJASL, and AASL. Renee was named Steinert High School's 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year. At the NJASL 2014 Fall Conference, Renee had the honor of receiving two awards: the ISTE Making IT Happen award, and NJASL’s Outstanding Media Specialist of the Year.
