Audubon RANDALL DAVEY CENTER & SANCTUARY 2015 Summer Adventure Camps Not your ordinary summer camp! At the Randall Davey Audubon Center & Sanctuary, campers explore 135 acres of mountain wilderness and a variety of diverse habitats. We discover, investigate, and play through hands-on, minds-on activities and games that encourage an understanding, appreciation and love of nature. “Audubon is a treasure in our community, and the summer camps are an incredible way to make kids interested in all aspects of nature. From creative games and nature hikes, to fun artwork and Friday popsicles, the kids couldn’t be happier. My son would go every week if he could, and he is already planning to volunteer when he’s old enough!” - 2014 Summer Camp Parent 1800 Upper Canyon Road • Santa Fe, NM 87501 • 505.983.4609 • http://nm.audubon.org Campers Explore! Each day we will spend time out on the trails, play silly games, read funny stories and make some artsy, crafty treasures to bring home. Chickadees Ages 5 to 7 Wonders of Water June 1st - 5th Water is one of our most precious and vital natural resources. Pollinator Planet July 13th - 17th This week is all about the birds and the bees...and butterflies, bats, moths, beetles, and flies that make up the plentiful pollinators that inhabit our planet! Campers will investigate our pollinator garden, learn from Master Gardeners, go on pollinator scavenger hunts, play games, investigate bugs, learn about flowering plants through art projects, and more! “My daughter has now done Audubon for two years and loved it. Our young Rock Star campers will explore planet Earth as we adventure on hikes, play games, create Earth themed art, and travel back in time as we learn how the mountains around Santa Fe were formed and what amazing prehistoric creatures walked in the same places our Sanctuary trails are today. Art, Naturally! June 22nd - 26th Discover the beauty of nature and let it inspire your inner artist this week as we explore the Sanctuary. Art comes in all forms in nature: picturesque landscapes; the musical notes of bird song; the graceful and powerful ways in which animals move; and beyond. Campers will create eco-friendly musical instruments from recycled materials, try their hand at observational drawing in nature journals, practice movement and dance inspired by wildlife, create site-specific sculpture and more in this exciting and creativity-driven camp week. Fantastic Flyers July 20th - 24th It’s a bird, a bat, an insect, oh my! Do flying squirrels really fly? This week campers learn the ways flying creatures take to the sky and how flight is one of nature’s greatest adaptations. We will investigate the world of birds, bats, and flying insects as we trek through the Sanctuary. Using nature as inspiration and letting our imaginations go wild, we’ll try our hand at building and testing our own flying contraptions too! “Our son has developed a real love and appreciation of the Center and Sanctuary through these camps. We have visited the river and beaver pond area in the fall and he has shown us around. The camps provide an excellent education in biology, botany, and nature in general. The counselors are very knowledgeable. We like that it is a mix of education and fun.” - 2014 Summer Camp Parent 4 Peregrines Ages 10 to 12 Mysterious Mountains June 15th - 19th How were the mountains surrounding Santa Fe formed, and what mysteries do the forests keep?
