Callum Ringer Callum grew up in Bodham, and attended both Sheringham Primary and High Schools. He moved into Sheringham in 2013 but now lives back in Bodham (owing to a lack of affordable housing!) where he organises the Rock Bodham charity music festival. Callum has worked at the town’s Burlington Hotel for 6 years, and now combines this with studying a Geography degree. He is particularly interested in issues concerning the environment and affordable housing for local people. In Sheringham he is keen supporter of town events, particularly the Carnival and 1940’s weekend, which bring a great deal of trade to the town. He also supports the creation of a performance area on lifeboat plain. Noel Gant Noel was born in Beeston Road, Sheringham, and attended Paston Grammar school. He went on to serve 24 years with the Royal Air Force before returning to Sheringham where he established a community physiotherapy service. Noel served for several years as a Town Councillor for Sheringham, including three years as town mayor. During this time he has worked to promote joint goodwill with Sheringham and Cromer and was joint president of the Cromer and Sheringham crab and Lobster festival. As District councillors Callum and Noel will speak up for the town of Sheringham and work to maintain the town’s high standard as a place to live and a place to visit. On-street parking meters threaten the vitality of our town centre and will only serve to detract tourists from our town. We also opposed the introduction of evening parking charges to NNDC car parks, which were introduced (and later scrapped) by the Conservative administration. This will be particularly felt by our hotels and guest houses. The suggested permit parking scheme for residents would only serve to generate income for council coffers and would not even The Liberal Democrats abstained from the vote. Car Parking in Sheringham should be as affordable as possible, particularly in the winter months, to encourage shoppers to our town centre. SHERINGHAM ADDRESS final.indd 2 Kamikaze crossings. Unnecessary, expensive and dangerous One of the most talked about issues on the door step has been annoyance at the huge expense spent on the brick-weave ‘crossings’ in the town centre. Many felt the consultation beforehand was very poor (or non-existent) and, other than Cllr Hannah, we have heard very few people say they are a good idea, or money well spent. There have been many near misses as people, those unfamiliar with the area, cross over into the path of an oncoming vehicle. We would support the introduction of a proper crossing (with a full and comprehensive consultation, of course) to aid in pedestrian safety, particularly to aid the elderly and disabled to cross safely. Pedestrianisation - worth a try? With the very narrow pavements in the town centre, particularly down by the amusement arcades, we would support a trial of pedestrianisation for the summer. This could operate from 9am-6pm for example, to allow for deliveries, etc. By having a season-long trial, we could ascertain the impact it has on the town centre trade, positive and negative, and go forward one way or another. The aim is to make the town centre as an attractive place for shoppers as possible. Much of the traffic driving through the town centre drives down to the seafront, up Gun Street and back out of town. What do you think? Contact us details on the front page Are our chidren’s play areas safe? I met with our district councillor Richard Smith to discuss safety concerns on The Esplanade play area, particularly the gate opening directly onto the road. He promised to go to officers and discuss the matter and get back to me. I never heard a thing back despite sending a couple of reminders by email! Nothing has changed. I will work with NNDC to improve safety here and, if elected, I promise I will actually get back to residents when they raise concerns!
