PRINCIPAL’S CORNER Dear Parents, Testing season has begun. I would like to congratulate all our 4th and 5th grade students and teachers for a job well done on the FSA ELA Writing Assessment. We know our students did an outstanding job. I know we are all very proud of them. Our students in grades 3-‐5 are hard at work getting ready for the FSA ELA Reading and Math and Assessments. Our 5th graders will be taking the FSA reading & math tests of on computer. In addition they will take the FCAT Science Assessment. We wish everyone the best of luck! It is important that students come to school ready to learn. Make sure your children are getting a good night’s sleep, eating a good breakfast and arriving at school on time. Students should have a place set aside at home for homework and studying where they will not be disturbed. In addition, students should be reading at least twenty minutes a night. Please make sure to communicate with your child’s teacher regarding their progress. Conferencing with your child’s teacher is a helpful way to understand your child’s progress and how you can assist them in their learning. Be sure to check your child’s agenda daily for important information. Davida J. The approved school uniform is khaki or navy uniform bottoms along with a white, navy or red shirt. North Andrews Gardens shirts are also acceptable. Sweatpants and jeans are not an approved part of the uniform even if they are the correct color. When students come dressed ready to learn their minds are ready to learn. 7:00PM for our Science Fair Night. Our students are excited to display the many wonderful projects they have created. It is a true opportunity to see our young scientists at their best. LIVE SAFETY DRILL On February 25th North Andrews Gardens Elementary conducted our annual live emergency drill. This year’s drill was a live Hazmat Drill conducted in cooperation will Broward School Police and the City of Oakland Park Fire Rescue. The drill was a great success and our students and staff performed wonderfully. JUMP ROPE FOR HEART We would like to take a moment to thank those of you who participated in Jump Rope for Heart. Our school raised over $2000 to support the American Heart Association in their efforts to conquer heart disease. Students should be receiving their prizes and remaining ducks in about 4 weeks. LUNCH WITH YOUR CHILD Parents are welcome to eat lunch or breakfast with their child on their grade levels’ assigned date. Below is the parent lunch schedule for March and April. Tuesday, April 7th Grades 1,& 4 Tuesday, April 14th Kindergarten & Grade 2 ATTENDANCE REMINDER Parents, your child’s attendance in school is crucial to their success. It is of extreme importance that students are at school on time and stay until the end of the day. When students are out they are missing valuable instructional time. We can’t help them learn if they are not here. Those students who are here as a magnet student run the risk of having their magnet status rescinded if they do not have acceptable attendance and adhere to the Elementary Student Code of Conduct. If your child is ill and has to remain home please call the school or write the office a note explaining the reason for the absence.
