An exciting opportunity to be part of a new legal project helping asylum seekers and
refugees in cases which are out of scope of legal aid. The project will be part of the
Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum, which has fifteen years of providing
advice and delivering community projects to this population. Adding legal services to the
wide mixture we already provide will take NNRF to the next level and make us a truly
unique organisation. If you are a dynamic self-starter with a real passion for human

Status:
Fixed term until 28 May 2018 (possible extension dependent on funding)

37 hours per week

Responsible to:
Legal Project Manager
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Legal Work

Draft witness statements, skeleton arguments, representations and other complex documents and
letters using word-processor.

Ensure all contact with the client and any other action taken in respect of cases is recorded on
attendance notes and regularly updated on the database.

Liaise with Immigration Authorities, other agencies, and groups as required.

Interview and advise clients regarding Immigration/Asylum law, procedure, and practice. Provide
guidance to clients on completion of documents.

Supervise and support volunteers in agreement with the legal project manager

Represent clients before immigration judges, in person or in writing as required, including
preparation of cases.

Undertake outreach work as required by Management, including liaising with communities,
delivering talks and presentations to groups, and visiting other groups and centres as appropriate.
Work from various locations as reasonably required by management.

Keep up-to-date at all time with changes in Immigration/Asylum law by reading, attending training
events and using computer for reference purposes.

Deliver training sessions in connection with own field of work to staff and other agencies if required.

Deputise for Legal Project Manager as required in their absence.

Participation in NNRF staff meetings, own supervision and appraisal, and reporting to Management
Committee meetings

Ensure work is compliant with NNRF policies and procedures and OISC registration standards

Any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and
responsibilities of the post, subject to the proviso that any changes of a permanent nature will be
incorporated into the Job Description in specific terms, following consultation with the postholder.
