Help Sheet: Forwarding University Email
Overview
This document explains how to set a forwarding address for email delivered to your University of Pittsburgh email address.
Your University of Pittsburgh email address ([email protected]) is the address used for all official University communication. It is the
only email address that will appear in University publications such as the online telephone directory, the Student Information System
(PeopleSoft), the CourseWeb course information system, and My Pitt (my.pitt.edu). In addition, students receive their e-Bills at their
University email address.
A default forwarding rule for your University email address was set when your account was activated. If you choose to read your email at
a different address, you remain responsible for all messages that are sent to your University address. We recommend that you do not
forward to non-University email addresses; however, if you choose to do so, you can set up forwarding.
You may have up to five forwarding addresses associated with your University Computer Account. The University will send your messages
to each forwarding address you enter, but it cannot guarantee that outside service providers will accept these messages for delivery (for
example, due to any possible blacklisting). Be sure to check your email provider's spam filter regularly to ensure you have not missed any
important messages sent to you from the University.
How to Forward Email
1.
Log in to my.pitt.edu using your University Computing Account username and password.
2.
Click Profile in the upper right hand corner.
3.
Click the Manage Your Account link.
4.
On the Manage My Account page, lick the Email Forwarding link, and add any forwarding addresses in the fields provided.
• To receive Enterprise IMAP email, [email protected] must be included as an email forwarding address. This is the
default forwarding address for all new University students, faculty, and staff.
• To receive Enterprise Exchange email, [email protected] must be included as an email forwarding address. You must
read your email through Exchange to ensure that you receive all email addressed to [email protected], including email sent
from other Enterprise Exchange users. Exchange email cannot be forwarded to your IMAP address or to non-University email
addresses.
• If you plan to receive your University email on both systems (Exchange and IMAP) or at a non-University address, you will need
to enter the appropriate forwarding addresses and acknowledge your selections on the Manage Your Account Web site.
• To remove a forwarding address, delete the address from the list.
5.
Click Save. You will receive a message that your settings have been successfully updated. Note: All forwarding changes you
make will take effect immediately.
6.
To exit the system, click Log Out (top right hand corner of the page).
