The Indian Summer evenings are warm. The Watching Mountains are about to explode with color. The smell of burgers hangs in the air from Steer Inn, Opdyke’s and Gino’s. It’s 1964 and 308 kids are walking down the “new building’s” halls in their crisp Farahs bought from the Varsity Shop and plaid skirts from Teen Town. Here is the bright and shiny new Senior Class of NPHS. The Class of ’65. They drive to school in reclaimed late 50’s cars and 65-cc Hondas. They talk about their summer days on Jersey beaches. They plan for fall weekends filled with football; movies at the Liberty, Strand or Edison Drive-In, for Canuckateens and the Arabs. They compare notes on the best places to park: Johnson Drive, Green Brook Park, or behind Great Eastern Mills.
