About Cross Country Cross country races takes place on natural terrain rather than asphalt in road races. Cross country racing spikes are not required, but are encouraged if you already own a pair. This course will follow the exact 3.0 mile loop (100 meters short of a 5K) which is used for home meets of Plainfield Central High School. If you are a spectator, then please be mindful of your surroundings. Otherwise, you could get run over by a race participant! The Start All participants start horizontally on the marked white line. The race begins when the starting gun fires. If someone falls within the first 100 meters, then the starter will fire the gun again to call all runners back to the line to restart the race. Starting the race before the gun is fired will result in a disqualification. During the Race As you will see in the attached course map, the colored flags indicate which direction runners should go in order to complete the course. Yellow indicates a right turn. Red indicates a left turn. Blue means keep running straight. There will be timers at the 1st and 2nd mile markers yelling out the total running time so each runner will know how fast they’re running. The Finish The finish line forms a chute to keep all runners single-file in order of finish. Your finishing place matters, so sprint as hard as you can until you get inside the finish chute!
