Grade 2 1st April, 2015 CHRONICLES OF NPSI, CHENNAI Dear Parents, Greetings! Month of March was a culmination to all that that had taken place during the academic year 201415. It was a year full of dynamism, challenges, events and occasions. Major events were Art Expo-‘Art Infinity’ by our young artists which added colour to the month. The school corridors were vibrant with all the students’ work being displayed. Kindergarten Day‘Estrella’ was a show worth remembering. The theme was replete with songs, dances, aerobics, tales and facts and had over 200 parents riveted to their seats. The highlight of this month was of course the EVS lesson on Animals. The numerous videos and hands-on activities enthralled the children into the world of animals. Children watched videos of weaver birds, humming birds and tailor birds building their nests. They then went to the field, collected twigs, dried leaves, grass and other materials and tried to build the nest, thus understanding the various nuances involved in nest building. Children heightened their sense of dexterity in the beak study activity by using various tools to pick up food items. Using various materials that were imitation of the actual eggs, children were able to comprehend that eggs are of different shapes, sizes and textures. Children were taken to the Sholinganallur marshland as an extended learning experience. Towards the culmination of the ‘Animal Kingdom’, children went outdoors for a colouring activity. The Library classes focussed on The Little Miss series, Aesop’s Fables and the I Am Reading series. In the Reading Programme classes, children were introduced to Woman Who Fooled The Fairies, Pot of Gold, Harry the Clever Spider, The Stone Cutter, When Arthur Wouldn’t Sleep and Kind Emma. The month focussed on thorough revision for the last Monthly Review. Students wrote their Monthly Review with deep concentration and sincerity. Children have got into the rhythm of learning and writing and following the norms. Page 1 of 2 WS / APR / NL11- 2 Overall, children participated enthusiastically in all the activities and events conducted this academic year. They have been magnificent and have risen up to all the challenges that came their way. Students from different backgrounds and different schools adjusted to their new environment with ease, and together they have learnt to march towards betterment in all fields. A surprise awaits the children on the 6th of April, 2015 as they troop in for the last time into the school building for this academic year as we hand over to them a capsule of what has gone by in a visual form.
