Position Title: Essential Skills Trainer Status: Non-Exempt Work Schedule: Part-Time (20 hours/week); Monday-Friday Salary: $17.61/hr Prorated Benefits The Nevada-Sierra Regional IHSS Public Authority is looking for an Essential Skills Trainer for our Nevada County Works! program. About Nevada County Works! The Public Authority’s Nevada County Works! (NCW!) program serves CalWORKs participants through the provision of programs that improve employability. These programs include Personal Planning, Essential Life Skills Training, Health and Wellness Classes, Vocational Training, Personal Finance Management, and Legal Clinics. At NCW!, CalWORKs participants have the opportunity to learn new skills and gain work experience through on-site and off-site work activities. About the Position Under supervision of the NCW! Manager, the Essential Skills Trainer develops and delivers training to participants of the NCW! Program as part of a team of staff and contracted trainers. The Essential Skills Trainer will work closely with participants using intensive, hands-on training to build soft skills as they relate to employment. Examples of Duties (Illustrative Only) Provides dynamic, hands-on training in soft skills and job preparation to up to 20 program participants at a time. Works closely with the NCW! program staff to support the participants’ long-term sustainable employment. Works with NCW! program staff and participants to adapt training curriculum to learners’ needs and goals. Designs activities to meet a variety of learning styles, experiences, expectations, and skill levels. Uses plain language in all instruction and classroom materials. Incorporates participants’ knowledge and experiences throughout the learning process. Encourages participants to share ideas, ask questions, make comments, and cooperate with each other in the classroom. Promotes and models effective interpersonal skills with active listening, open-ended questioning, and sensitivity to participant diversity. Accepts and gives constructive criticism. Encourages and responds to participant feedback. Works with NCW! program staff to evaluate curriculum and methods periodically and to adapt curriculum and methods in order to best meet the needs of participants. Inputs participant progress data into the NCW! database. Administers and updates internet-based teaching platform. Qualifications Experience in: Teaching adult learners. Teaching people from a variety of socioeconomic and/or cultural backgrounds. Skill in: Creating a positive learning environment for people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Considering issues that affect learning (substance abuse, low literacy skills, family dynamics, etc.) and providing support to address these challenges. Adapting teaching methods to respond to individual learning styles, goals, and behaviors.
