Back Pain C L I N I C N E W S L E T T E R Back Pain is a major Health Issue for Ontario Back pain can result from many causes, including: muscle strain; restrictions in the movement of the spinal joints or pelvis (sacroiliac joints); lifting; disc injuries; and weakness of the core muscles which support your lower back. Sometimes lower back problems can cause pain, tingling or numbness in your legs and feet. Your chiropractor can examine you correctly to determine the cause of your pain and recommend treatment. The experts report: • The Public Health Agency of Canada found that, in 2008, the direct costs (i.e., drug, hospital, and physician care) of LBP care in Ontario amounted to more than $390 million.[iii] • In 2012 nearly 20% of Ontarians reported that their back problems were chronic.[ii] • In 2013 the WSIB reported that over the previous 10 years, LBP was the leading part of the body injured, accounting for 17-18% of lost time claims.[iv] If you experience back pain that lasts for more than a few days, consult your chiropractor. Exercise 1: Knee to Chest Starting Position: Lie on your back on a table or firm surface. Action: Clasp your hands behind the thigh and pull it towards your chest. Keep the opposite leg flat on the surface of the table Maintain the position for 30 seconds. Switch legs and repeat. Do Not Cause Pain.
