For Immediate Release ABNS & ABSNC 330.995.9172 [email protected] NCC Receives ABNS Janel Parker Presidents Award AURORA, Ohio, (March 25, 2015)—The American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) announced today the National Certification Corporation for Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing (NCC) is the recipient of the Janel Parker Presidents Award for their work in executing the “Certified Nurses are Everywhere” campaign, a public education program focused on communicating the value of specialty certification for nurses to the public. “The ABNS Board of Directors was honored to nominate NCC for this award, recognizing the significant effort they have made since 2013 to educate nurses and the general public about the important role certified nurses play in the healthcare system,” Maria Shirey, PhD, MBA, RN, NEA‐BC, FACHE, FAAN, President of ABNS, said. The “Certified Nurses are Everywhere” campaign is the first nationally visible program focusing on this topic. NCC facilitated the project, recruiting 10 other certifying agencies to collaborate and support its effort. The collaboration resulted in a national campaign including public service announcements, Internet ads, print ads, a dedicated Web site, transit ads and mall dioramas across the country. To date, the campaign has resulted in more than 900 million impressions. “NCC is actively involved in moving the national agenda for a competent workforce forward. In an effort to inform the public about national certification and the value of certified nurse’s we developed this integrated communication campaign,” Robin L. The Janel Parker Presidents Award is given biennially to recognize an individual or organization within the ABNS membership that has made significant contributions to specialty nursing certification and to the association.
