Volunteered at St. Malachy's & IS/PS 89 PTA. Attended conferences for the special education when at
St. Malachy's. Worked with special education children/teachers. My oldest child was a special ed
student at St. Malachy's. He attended the DeSoto School in Manhattan and then IS/PS 89 for middle
school. Both my younger children now attended the Bank Street School, where I volunteered, Salve
Regina Catholic Academy, and now attend PS 158. Both my young children needed an IEP after the
Bank Street School and had one in Kindergarten, but currently do have an IEP. Catholic schools did
not offer the right fit for my children. We have decided that the public school system offers a more
appropriate educational environment for my children.
I am the parent of a college student, and have two young children through the foster care system. I am
in the final stages of adoption and will finalize the adoption in May 2015. I work at New York
University as a Residence Hall Director, and have been with the university in Residential Life and
Housing Services for 16 years. I have a degree from NYU in Early Childhood Education and a BA in
Psychology. I am currently completing my MA in Mediation and Conflict Resolution. Education is very
important to my family and I. I am always looking to provide the best possible academic environment
for my children.
