Candidate Latisha Barcus DBN: 09x132 IEP: No ELL No Applicant At PS 132: PA President, Vice President, Secretary (present), Title 1 Representative and PA member Background at Henry Street High School Personal Being the parent of three boys, all of whom attend and attended public schools, I see the stark Statement differences between schools that struggle to get parents engaged in their children’s education (e.g.: weak Parent’s Association, low attendance at parent-teacher conferences, etc.), and those schools where parents are vocal in their opinions and input effort in improving their child’s school. Schools where a greater percentage of parents are actively engaged are schools that may attract more grants and services from non-profits for supplies and equipment for school staff. Parents who are active in their children’s school can facilitate more fund-raising activities for trips and extra-curricular activities. As a CEC member I will advocate for parents, and empower them with knowledge about what is going on in their child’s school, to make sure they know that they are not voiceless and powerless in the school’s vision and academic direction.
