Ludmer, R-DMT Laurie is a registered dance movement therapist and published poet. Her dance therapy practice is with older adults, facilitating in the maintenance and strengthening of their psychophysical health. Laurie believes passionately that the third stage of life can be one of “elder grace”, and developed Memory through Movement- an innovative movement program specifically designed for the older adult. Laurie has also been writing poetry for many years. Her poems are imagistic, often using nature as a central metaphor. Laurie has been published in Prairie Journal, Rattle, Jewish Currents, Poetica and On The Rusk. Poetry in Motion is a ninety minute exciting workshop in which participants explore their physical response to words through various techniques. Self discovery is enhanced through dance improvisation to poetry and the creation of individual as well as group dances. Through discussion, movement explorations and journeys into the world of words, workshop participants will gain practical understanding and meaningful insight into the symbolic “language of dance” and “language of words.” Both of these “languages” use symbols to express, reveal, communicate and celebrate. Where these symbols intersect - poetry is possible and dance is created.
