Consider
Volunteering
with the Club!
Eileen Finn LeMatty
President
As I write, the snow is fabulous in
the Northeast, the Sunday River I Trip
group is having a blast, the weekend
Alpine, Cross Country and weekday
buses are filled with happy skiers! What
a stellar year!! We haven’t seen this
much Eastern powder in years. We are
down to just a few Trips remaining.
Banff has just returned (FABULOUS
TIME); Sunday River II headed out on
March 8th; Jackson Hole on March
14th; and Jay Peak on the 26th. BUT,
Buses will be running into April, so
don’t think the season will be ending
too soon. Thank you to all the Bus
Leaders and Trip Leaders. We cannot
run this club without you! It’s all about
volunteering.
Elections will be coming up. The
Board chose March 19th and 26th as
Nomination dates and April 9th for
the Elections. Please consider helping
your club by either running for an
Officer position, a Board seat, or maybe
you’d like to work on a Committee.
I have been volunteering since 1995
and it is both fun and rewarding.
Some changes are never easy to see
through. It’s a process, and as the
Club grows and evolves, new ideas
are always welcomed. Don’t think that
because your idea/suggestion is not
immediately acted upon that it never
would be or is not “good enough” etc.
It just isn’t always possible to make a
change quickly, there are usually many
factors involved, so the process can be
seemingly slow because we need to
consider every possible angle or every
possible result of the idea/change
before implementing.
This is OUR Club, all inclusive.
All members should let their voices
be heard. Trip ideas for next season
need to be looked at NOW, not in
the Summer or Fall (that’s too late!).
Contracts start getting signed in April
for Trips, and Bus Scheduling begins in
May/June. We know deals and specials
pop up in the Fall, and we try to add
them when possible, but due to the
amount of time it takes to work out
the schedule, negotiations must begin
early. ANY heads up info is helpful! The
best thing to do is, never give up trying,
and continue to enjoy what is offered

OC ELECTIONS - IT’S SOON TIME TO ROCK (SKI) THE VOTE!
You’ve been having a great winter - and a great year - with lots of activities organized by
your fellow OCers. But with spring coming, it’ll soon be time for OC Elections! The OC
Elections give members the chance to choose who will be overseeing club activities next
year. Members will be voting on the following positions:
• President
• Vice President for Administration
• Vice President for Organized Skiing
• Treasurer
• Secretary
• Board Member (10 positions)
Nominations for these positions will be taken at the OC meetings on March 19 and 26.
Elections will happen at the OC meeting on April 9. Got some ideas on how the club could
be better? Why not run for a position? Want to support the club? Be sure to come and vote!
in the meantime. The Club certainly does try
hard to offer something for everyone. Some
ideas don’t pan out, but hey, live and learn,
and then move forward. So, if you have
some time and energy after plowing through
all that powder, consider Volunteering.
Remember – we are all volunteers. Ask
questions, or nicely let the event/trip/bus
leader know of a problem. They aren’t trying
to give anyone a hard time either, they are
just trying to do the job to the best of their
ability, and possibly it is a policy or procedure
that is the reason something is being done a
certain way.

Happy Spring!
March Madness
Fred Haefeli
aka “Woodtick”
Vice President for
Organized Skiing
email - [email protected]
Ok we are in one of the best months for
skiing. Warmer temps, lots of snow coverage and
longer daylight. A great trifecta! No excuses not
to enjoy the skiing especially since the season is
unfortunately winding down. We are still running
week-long & weekend trips and the buses will
keep rolling until at least the middle of April. I don’t
consider March Spring skiing, that is what April is
for. The snow is still cool not mushy.
That’s it for this month’s article. I hope everyone
is enjoying the great snow conditions we currently
are having.
REMEMBER!
Any suggestions for week-long or weekend trips
contact Kathy Howard at [email protected].
This will be your last chance as she will be organizing next year’s trip very soon. We
want to run trips that you are interested in so we need your input!

Cathy Marvin
Cross Country Chair
Hello all,
February was a skier’s dream! It was cold, but we
can, and do, dress for that. The main thing about
February was the snow! Snow, snow, and more snow!
We will be skiing until June! Yahoo!
Keep the
Snow
Coming!!!
Erin O’Brien
Vice President for
Administration
March brings us the time of year when we
nominate people in the club who want to keep
it running for all of us. I have opted not to run
again. Self imposed term limits! I have been VP of
Administration for two years and I have enjoyed
it! It is time to let somebody new enjoy it. Please
consider running for something-office or board. Give
something back to the club that gives you so much!
FROM THE SECRETARY
Keep your green on for one more day on March
18th and join us for the monthly Happy Hour at Public
House 42, which us located at 42 Eagle Street in Albany.
There are various drink and food specials. The hours are 5-8 pm. See you there! Howdy OCers,
Ski the East
and West!
It looks like the Banffers had a great time in
Canada, despite the warm temps. We are still
getting pounded with snow here in the Northeast!! With a winter like this, who really needs to go out
West? This Guy!! We will be leaving for Jackson
Hole March 14th. I have made reservations for the
Installation Banquet, and if I do say so, I got a great
deal for us @ Lanthiers Grove. Tickets will be going
on sale soon!!
Dave Simonian
Secretary
We started out gang
busters with the number
of people on buses
and it has been going
downhill the past few
weeks.
If you are skiing local rather than getting
on the bus, you are missing the social
interaction that OC’s are known for.
We have a few buses left on the schedule.....
join us!
Cross Country Tentative Schedule:
• Mar. 14 Mt Van Ho, 7:30
• Mar. 21 open for any earlier cancellations
