WEDNESDAY, MAY 14, 2014
Ohio Courts Update and Legislative Update
This session will provide updates on current projects and legislation
affecting the judiciary.
THURSDAY, MAY 15, 2014
What Have You Done For Me Lately?
Have you ever gotten stuck on a problem or an issue at your court and
you don’t know who to talk to? Your regular go-to person is taking a
well-deserved month-long vacation in Guam and cannot be reached. A
solar flare has wiped out the Internet, so you can’t shoot out an all-points
bulletin to the other members of the association through the OACA
website. The best place to turn for information is the Supreme Court of
Ohio. The Supreme Court and the State of Ohio offer many more
services than you may be aware of and they are more than happy to help.
During this fast-paced and informational session, we will outline the
programs and resources available and tell you "who to call."
For instance: Does your court want a high-tech Voice Over Internet
Protocol phone system? Do you want video conferencing capabilities
from your desk? Has your court had a Physical Security Assessment to
determine whether a defendant can easily grab a garbage bin and hurl it
at the judge? Want to find out what to do when your magnetometer goes
on the fritz?
Need help handling a difficult personnel
situation? Looking for ways to measure employee or customer
satisfaction? Wishing someone would do a caseload study for your
court?
CURRICULUM & FACULTY
FRIDAY, MAY 16, 2014
Leading with Laughter: How U.S.
Presidents Use Humor to Relate, Motivate
and Communicate
In today's information-driven economy, the ability to make
presentations is essential —especially for court administrators.
Whether you're speaking to judges, lawyers, colleagues or the
community at large, you need to get your ideas across
effectively. You also need to make people pay attention to
information that's very dry even though it's very important.
That means knowing how to make a point with humor even if
you can't tell a joke. It also means having a point.
Malcolm Kushner of Malcolm Kushner and Associates will
discuss how humor is a powerful communication tool. It
commands attention, creates rapport and makes ideas more
memorable. It can also relieve tension, defuse conflict and
motivate people -- if it's used appropriately. Whether you're
talking to one person or one thousand, using humor in a
presentation can make your point, build goodwill and get an
audience on your side. Kushner will teach you how to
transform your sense of humor into a powerful professional
asset. He will also provide some tips and tricks to make public
speaking a positive experience for you and your audience. And
that's no joke.
Join us as we learn about the products, services, and benefits offered by
the Supreme Court of Ohio and the Ohio Department of Administrative
Services.
