This talk will convey an overview of the basic steps in sample
preparation and analysis for next-generation sequencing of genomic DNA, especially as applicable to clinical oncology. A discussion of select cases will demonstrate important pre-analytic and
analytic considerations, highlighting both the promise of this exciting technology and its limitations.

Whole slide imaging (WSI) and digital pathology continues to
evolve at a rapid pace, mostly driven by developments in technology. Advances in computer processing power, data transfer speeds,
advances in software, and cloud storage solutions have enabled
the use of digital images for a wide variety of purposes in pathology. As a result, pathology departments as well as histology laboratories have begun utilizing digital imaging for simple tasks (e.g.
image archiving) and more complex undertakings (e.g. telepathology, image analysis). The objective of this talk is to provide an overview of current applications, capabilities and limitations of WSI and
review some of the challenges and barriers to adoption of WSI.

“Mighty Fine Miniswine: The Ins and Outs of Minipigs in

The physiologic similarities between swine and humans in part
explains the increased use of minipigs as a preferred animal
model in biomedical research. This presentation provides an
overview of strain, husbandry and procedural considerations
useful to anyone working with these animals, and also covers an
organ system-based review of spontaneous diseases and microscopic changes that may be encountered. Tips and tricks for
optimal sampling and processing of minipig tissues are included,
all from a pathologist’s perspective .
