Community Electronics Recycling Day
On Saturday, April 25, from 10 am – 2 pm at OHHS, the Environmental Action Committee of Mount
St. Joseph University, in conjunction with the Oak Hills School District, will accept cell phones, iPods,
Blackberries, MP3 players, digital cameras, handheld game systems, handheld GPS units, laptops, ereaders, portable hard drives, charging cords and accessories for all of these items. These items will
then be donated to the Cincinnati Zoo’s “Project Saving Species” program, which helps protect gorillas
by minimizing the amount of coltan (an ore used in cell phones) that needs to be mined in gorilla
habitat areas in Africa. The goal is to collect 400 cell phones. (Please remove all data from phones,
Blackberries, laptops, and hard drives first.) In addition to the items listed above, any other item
with an electrical cord will be accepted, include telephone systems, computers, monitors, scanners,
laserdisc players, computer keyboards, printers, VCR/DVD/CD players, fax machines, copiers,
microwaves, surge protectors, cash registers, power cables, electronic wiring, and satellite
components. Larger items such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, and dishwashers also accepted. A
$10 donation is requested for all cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions and monitors and $20 donation
for all refrigerant-containing appliances. If you have questions, please call event coordinator Colleen
McSwiggin at 513-244- 4864.
