There will be an Optimist Board meeting this Thursday,
May 14th at 7:15. If you are on the board, we look
forward to seeing you. If you need to speak at the
meeting, please contact Barrett to be added to the
agenda. If you are interested in one of the three slots
that are opening up, please contact Jessi Kendall at the
Ashland City Hall.
Bingo on May 8th was a rather light crowd, with only 118
players, but we did have plenty of help in the kitchen and on
the floor.
A fine breakfast was provided by Barrett and Brandon
Glascock for our Mother's Day gathering. It was fabulous to
see all the wives and guests that were invited to the meeting
this morning!
Our speaker this morning was Christopher "Kit" Salter,
former Chair and teacher from the Geography department at
University of Missouri. He chose the topic of "Traveling on the
Cheap". He has been experiencing the pleasures of low cost
travel since he was in junior high. It all started because his
family moved frequently and had no car of their own, so to
visit people that he had become close to, he had to thumb
rides.
By college, he had become experienced enough to add
traveling by the rails to his resume'. He even sold his skills to
raise money for a fundraiser at Oberlin College.
Cricket Hackmann, who was there as the guest of her
parents, Wes and Sharon Donley, as well as her son Cody,
drew for our attendance drawing. Doug Smith, Jacob
Zagorac, and Lester Gilpin could have won, but they missed
our incredible breakfast and speaker, as well as their chance
at riches.
