SalukiTechNews IT Day Coming to SIU in August IT Day began in 2013 as a day for IT staff from all SIU campuses to converge for the purpose of building relationships, encouraging collaboration between campuses and among colleagues and sharing ideas. The inaugural event took place in August 2014. Subsequent events are scheduled to circulate between the three SIU campuses: Carbondale in 2015, Springfield in 2016 and Edwardsville in 2017. As host for IT Day 2015, the planning team at SIU Carbondale has developed a robust schedule of engaging sessions for IT Day participants. Our goal is to provide value for every minute spent. •Technology Space Design, Dean of Morris Library •Survive Your Career: Stress and Health Management for IT Professionals In addition to general keynote sessions, each keynote speaker will also run a two- or three-hour Master Class to drill down on topics with interested participants. Conference attendees who do not choose to attend Master Classes will have an array of other interesting options. The IT Day conference is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Morris Library. The theme for IT Day is: “Think big! Initiate action! Push limits!” We selected this theme to set a positive tone for the day and year to come. Tentative participants and topics include: •Roundtable: A Vision for SIU: Where Are We Headed – How Can We All Contribute to That Future? •Courageous Leadership: a Steve Jobs Primer to Success, Dr. Bruce DeRuntz, Leadership Development Director, SIU Carbondale, Professor •Engaging Online Audiences, Curt Bonk •Sustainable Green/Clean IT, Richard Hodges, President, Green IT Morris Library offers a large selection of technology-enabled classrooms and collaborative workspaces. These spaces will be used for niche presentations, roundtables, and workshops. Topics of these specialized sessions may include developing leaders, effecting change, promoting efficiency, increasing professionalism, mentoring personnel, encouraging entrepreneurial spirit, and seizing opportunities as well as technology niche subjects like app development and cyber security. Technology-related tours of SIU Carbondale create an opportunity to show visitors unique aspects of technology on the SIUC campus. These tours are slated throughout the day. Campus experts will conduct these tours and have the opportunity to discuss an area that allows them to share their expertise. There is a choice of tours: •Wonderland – A tour of the Mobile Dawg Setup Site. •Aviation and Automotive Technology – A tour of the advanced IT components of these programs, including flight simulators and automotive technologies. •Technology Spaces Design Tour– A tour with the architect and designers responsible for the Morris Library renovation. •Security Efforts at McLafferty Annex Collaborative Research Facility – A tour explaining the environmental and fiscally responsible renovations and IT use of the facility. •Saluki Technology Store – Our campus-owned retail store and the story behind its setup and operations. •SIU Technology Park – Our campus business/technology incubator. •SIU Carbondale Campus Tour – An overall view for visitors.
