With the New Year in full swing, now may be a good time to
reflect on the resolutions and goals that we set for ourselves for
2013. It’s still early enough to add some new ones or to simply
make adjustments to ones we already have in order to stay on
track. Personally, my goal is to make and keep routine medical
appointments that in the past I have pushed aside. So far, I
am pleased to say I am off to a good start. But just as
importantly, I am tracking the progress of resolutions (goals)
that we have set for Jazz 91.9 WCLK as well. This year, we
have a collective goal at WCLK to keep the great Jazz flowing
and moving forward. But we also have a higher commitment to provide more
service to our community and I can proudly say that we are headed in the right
direction.
Last Fall, we moved our antenna to a new tower and we were able to nearly
double our coverage area allowing us to serve more communities. We are now
entering our third year of simulcasting Morning Jazz with Morris Baxter in a
television broadcast on CAU-TV Atlanta Comcast 23 once again allowing us to
connect with more people. We have added several new philanthropic and
cultural organizations to a very diverse roster of partner organizations that help
us meet our civic and social priorities, allowing us to touch more lives. Our
announcers and staff are more visible in projects, panels, seminars and
workshops that help to show our commitment to building a stronger
community.
It is truly our goal to matter in your daily lives. So, as you review your
resolutions and goals for 2013, we ask that you make Jazz 91.9 WCLK one of
your priorities this year. If you love us, but somehow got busy and let your
membership lapse, make this the year that you support your Jazz station. If
you’ve been meaning to put your pledge in the mail, don’t delay…do it today. It
will not matter how much you give, but that you give. And we will keep doing
our part. Thank you for being a vital part of our family,

A simple note, gift of encouragement or an act of kindness can make a
big difference to individuals who are in need. For the second
year in a row, Jazz 91.9 WCLK is partnering with the United Way of
Metropolitan Atlanta to encourage individuals to join us in a
campaign to create personal care packages for Atlanta area
homeless women and children during the 2013 United Way
Shoebox Project.
Beginning March 1 through May 1, you can donate decorated
shoeboxes filled with toiletries, personal care items and motivational
messages for distribution to homeless women and children on
Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12. Individuals can drop off boxes at
local United Way offices. Items needed include: travel size
shampoo, soap, lotion, water bottles, deodorant, toothbrush, tooth
paste, hair comb/brush, sun protector, lip balm and hand towels.

remembers
musicians
who play it safe.
Great and
memorable musicians
redefine music with their uncanny ability to
stretch and combine many genres and mediums.
Holiday, Ellington and Hendrix did this. And so
did Miles--more than once. Now Anton Harris
enters into the dialogue regarding great Jazz
musicians who possess the dexterity to translate
multiple genres into one cohesive, yet dynamic
story. Whether Hip Hop or Electronica, Rock or
Gospel, Harris seamlessly sews traditional and
experimental patches of sound together to create
a musical quilt that warms the soul. The Anton
Harris Quartet was formed in 2003 with band
members Che Marshall (drums), David Springer
(guitar) and Brent Shields (bass). The group
began recording its debut album Modern
Mythology in August 2005, with production and
project coordinator Khari Simmons and
contributing artists.
