March 22, 2015 5 Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish Waltham/Lexington OUR LADY’S CCD CONFERENCES/ADORATION WITH Fr. DiPerri CATECHISM CORNER Sunday, May 17—Grades 1-8 Faith is the theological virtue by which we believe in God and believe all that he has said and revealed to us, and the Holy Church proposed for our belief, because he is truth itself. By faith “man freely commits his entire self to God.” For this reason the believer seeks to know and do God’s will. The gift of faith remains in one who has not sinned against it. But “faith apart from works is dead” when it is deprived of hope and love, faith does not fully unite the believer to Christ and does not make him a living member of his Body. The Disciple of Christ must not only keep the faith and live on it, but also profess it, confidently bear witness to it, and spread it. Service of and witness to the faith are necessary for salvation: “So every one who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my father who is in heaven; but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” OUR LADY’S ACADEMY CONFERENCES/ ADORATION WITH Fr. Fifth Sunday of Lent Here it is again, the recurring theme in the readings this Lent: Covenant. “I will place my law within them and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” (Jer. 31) Does it get any better than this? This is unearned, gratis, unconditional love. But there is an invitation that Jesus articulates in Today’s Gospel: “Whoever serves must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me.” How do you serve and follow Jesus? What difference does it make in your daily life that you are here at Mass today? Fifth Sunday of Lent
