Certificate IV in Training &
Assessment TAE40110
via Recognition of Prior Learning
This brochure describes the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) options
available to those seeking to upgrade to the new TAE40110 Certificate IV
in Training and Assessment qualification.
RPL is an assessment-only process that lets people with existing skills
and knowledge demonstrate their competence without having to first
be trained.
Why upgrade?
We have several RPL options for the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training &
Assessment:
The TAE40110 is Australia’s newest
Certificate IV in Training and
Assessment and is the new standard
in providing training and assessment
within Australia’s vocational education
sector.
•
BSZ RPL kit: This RPL kit is specifically designed for candidates who
possess the superseded BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and
Workplace Training (‘BSZ’) qualification. Refer to page 2 of this brochure
for more information.
•
TAA RPL kit: This RPL kit is designed specifically for candidates who
possess the superseded TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and
Assessment (‘TAA’) qualification. Refer to page 3 of this brochure for
more information.
•
RPL workshops: To support candidates who have purchased the TAAand BSZ-RPL kits, Plenty Training also runs one-day workshops to assist
candidates in completing the RPL kits.
•
TAE40110 teacher’s fast-track course: This course is designed for
experienced teachers and trainers. Its entrance prerequisites address the
RPL for those who already possess training delivery and presentation
skills. It is ideal for teachers seeking to deliver vocational training,
experienced trainers who have no or little formal training qualifications,
and qualified trainers who desire a ‘refresher’ course. It is available as
a two- or three-day ‘fast-track’ class and as a distance learning course.
(Note: This course is fully described in a separate course brochure
available from our website.)
Must you upgrade?
Actually,
no!
The National Skills
Standards Council
(NSSC) has mandated
that all trainers and assessors are to
possess the TAE40110 qualification OR
be able to demonstrate equivalence
of competencies, AND be able to
demonstrate vocational competencies.
A transition period until June 2013 has
been granted for full implementation of
this new policy.
Noting the significant
effort required to
adequately document ‘equivalent
competencies’, the fastest and most
cost-effective means to attain the new
TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and
Assessment is to simply utilise our RPL
kits, which typically take only a half day
or so to complete.
However...
Besides this, most employers are no
longer accepting anything other than
the full TAE40110 qualification from
their existing and prospective training
and assessment staff!
The benefits of doing the TAE40110 with Plenty Training are:
•
•
•
•
•
Quality: We ask all of our students for feedback and are proud to
have consistently achieved an average customer satisfaction rating
greater than 4.4 out of 5! (Our government audit results are equally
impressive and are published on our website.)
Speed: We guarantee a 10 working-day turnaround on all
submitted assessments.
Value: We always ensure that we remain the most competitivelypriced provider of RPL in Australia.
Experience: Plenty Training is one of Australia’s largest non-TAFE
providers of the TAE40110 and has delivered this qualification via
class, distance learning, RPL kits and workshops to thousands of
students.
Customer support: Students love having a trainer and assessor available
during business hours for follow-on telephone or email support.

The BSZ RPL kit
TAEDES402A
The BSZ RPL kit was specifically designed to cover the gaps between the
superseded BSZ40198 and the new TAE40110 qualifications.
Only one TAE40110 unit of competency is not wholly or
mostly addressed by an equivalent BSZ40198 unit. This is unit
TAEDES402A ‘Use Training Packages and accredited courses to
meet client needs’. However, our RPL kit addresses this gap, as
most RPL candidates have worked within the VET sector and
can easily demonstrate all unit competencies.
The following checklist will help you identify the extent to
which you have used training packages and accredited courses
to meet client needs as part of your normal work tasks. Work
through the questions and rate the extent to which you have
performed each task. If the majority of your answers are ‘yes’
then the RPL kit would appear to be suitable for you. However,
if many of your answers are ‘no’ then we recommend that you
undertake the teachers’ fast-track course instead of this RPL kit.
Performance: I have...
The ‘map’ of equivalence between the TAE40110 and BSZ40198
qualifications is shown below. This map reveals that one core TAE unit
(TAEDES402A) does not have an equivalent BSZ unit, and that there is a
small training gap in four of the other core units of competency.
The evidence that you submit in the RPL kit is used to demonstrate your
competencies in these training gaps. The main evidence that you will be
asked to provide consists of:
•
•
•
•
•
a simple self-assessment checklist for the ‘missing’ unit TAEDES402A.
(Refer to the description in the side panel.)
a CV showing relevant experience within the vocational education and
training (VET) sector.
your supervisor (or equivalent) signing a declaration (that we provide)
which verifies your experience.
answer a few questions on VET policies; training packages; assessment
activities and processes; planning, organising and delivering groupbased learning.
supply copies of a learning program that you have designed,
developed and reviewed; two assessment instruments that you
developed addressing competency standards; provide details of a
project where you planned, organised and facilitated learning in the
workplace in an individual learning facilitation relationship.
The kit typically takes four to eight hours to complete, depending on how
much of the above evidence items are available and at hand to the RPL
candidate. (Note 1)

The TAA RPL kit
To demonstrate your
competency in the TAA40104
training gaps identified overleaf
you will be asked to:
• provide a copy of your
TAA40104 qualification
• provide a CV that details
your experience in the
training and assessment
sector
• supply copies of two
assessment instruments that
you developed that address
competency standards
• prove that you planned,
organised and delivered
a group-based learning
session according to a
session plan
• supply evidence that
you have undertaken
professional development
to maintain the currency
of your training and
assessment competence
• supply a signed declaration
from your supervisor (NB:
The template is supplied in
the RPL kit.)
• answer a few questions
on Australian vocational
education and training (VET)
policies and frameworks; VET
training packages; planning
assessments; and planning,
organising and delivering
group-based learning.
The TAA RPL kit was specifically designed to cover the gaps between the superseded
TAA40104 and the new TAE40110 qualifications.
The ‘map’ of equivalence between the units comprising the TAE40110 and TAA40104
qualifications is shown below. This reveals small training gaps in both the core and
elective units of competency. The TAA RPL kit addresses the evidence you must provide
to show your competencies in these training gaps, as detailed in the side panel. The kit
typically takes four to eight hours to complete, depending on the amount of evidence
items that are available and at hand to the RPL candidate. (Note 2)
The TAA40104 Certificate IV
Training and Assessment
was released in 2004 and, in
2010, was superseded by the
new TAE40110 Certificate IV
in Training and Assessment
qualification.
There are subtle differences
between these qualifications.
For example, whereas the
TAA40104 qualification
emphasised the delivery of
training in a workplace context,
the new TAE40110 qualification
has been developed to cater
for trainers working in a
broader training and education
environment, including TAFE
institutes and private providers
of training.

Don’t have all three TAE electives covered?
If your TAA transcript does not map across to three equivalent TAE elective units, the RPL kit
provides the ‘gap’ units BSBCMM401A ‘Make a presentation’ and BSBREL402A ‘Build client
relationships and business networks’. These provide an RPL assessment based on your
competence and experience, and not on you having previously completed these units during
your TAA40104 training.
Alternatively, if you have already completed other national training, you may choose one of
your elective units from any currently endorsed training package or accredited course.
Note 2: If you have primarily worked as a trainer and have not developed course content such as
learning program plans, assessment tools, etc, you could either undertake the one-day RPL workshop
in conjunction with this RPL kit; or else undertake the teachers’ fast track program (available as a twoor three-day fast-track class and as a distance learning course) instead of this RPL kit. The brochure for
the teachers’ fast track program is available from www.plentytraining.edu.au.

Prices
If you subsequently decide that an RPL kit wasn’t the right choice, you
may upgrade to a teachers’ fast-track course and you only need to pay the
difference in price between the RPL kit and the course. It’s one of the many
ways in which we support our students.
BSZ RPL kit – $549
TAA RPL kit – $299
RPL kit one-day workshop – $399
Teachers’ fast-track class – $1,099
Teachers’ distance learning course – $799

program designed for those who already possess a teaching or training
background and wish to transition into the vocational education and training
sector – that is, in adult learning.
Plenty Training
The TAE40110 teachers’ fast-track course teaches the essential vocational
training and assessment activities – including how to design and develop
learning programs using national vocational training packages to meet
client needs; how to facilitate learning in the workplace; and how to create,
implement and manage competency-based assessment activities and
processes.
Plenty Training is a leader in the provision
of the TAE40110 throughout Australia,
being a preferred supplier to many large
corporations and chosen by local, state
and federal government departments.
Training and RPL is provided to the
trainers and managers of hundreds of
Registered Training Organisations (RTOs),
as well as to thousands of individual
learners from a variety of industries.
(Note: The teachers’ fast-track course is fully described in a separate course
brochure available from our website.)
