Michigan Construction Career Days On May 7, (45) students will travel to Howell, Michigan to participate in the Michigan Construction Career Days Event. Students will experience construction up-‐close, getting the chance to use real tools, materials and heavy equipment under the direct guidance of construction professionals from all sectors of the industry. Michigan colleges will also be on hand to exhibit construction related curriculum and opportunities. Perhaps the most fun part of this day includes several acres of heavy equipment on which students may experience hands-‐on learning. These young people will not only see what construction is, but learn of the training and education paths to secure the good paying jobs a career in construction provides. Thank you to the St. Joseph Schools Foundation for making this trip possible Bring Your Own Device at SJHS Over the past three years the students at Upton Middle School have been engaged in a 1:1 computing learning initiative. Next fall, our incoming freshman in SJPS will bring their experience and technology skill to the high school and will be invited to bring their personal devices to the classroom. With that in mind, our entire high school will be transitioning to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) environment beginning with the 2015-‐‑2016 school year. In a BYOD environment, students are encouraged to bring personal computers to school to enhance their learning and productivity. In addition, all high school teachers will be participating in focused professional development and training for redesigning their instruction to further include 21st Century learning tools and strategies. For the past year, a committee has been meeting to develop policy and guidelines for the BYOD initiative, which began when the class of 2019 were 6th graders at Upton. A draft of the policy document, including FAQs, can be found at this web address http://goo.gl/MOYlqp. In addition, a document outlining device minimum requirements can be found using this link http://goo.gl/8rernU. Finally, a short survey has been designed to gather input from parents and help further plan for BYOD. Please take a few minutes and complete the survey found at this link http://goo.gl/forms/HzS6RiWo8q. CONGRATULATIONS ACADEMIC CHALLENGE TEAM! BEARS 405, LAKESHORE 150.
