Trinity Sunday
May 31st, 2015
FATHER, SON AND HOLY SPIRIT
The mystery of the Holy Trinity is beyond our
understanding. No human reasoning can present a
satisfactory explanation. Yet, we accept Trinity
without hesitation because Jesus showed how
much he lived in the intimacy of the Father and
the Spirit. Instead of very inadequate speculations
we prefer to look at Jesus’ life for some insight. He
was very close to his Father, even saying that he
was one with him. He also stressed his unity with
the Holy Spirit whom he sent to explain all that he
had taught. We approach the Holy Trinity in our
prayers. The Our Father is an example. We see the
Father’s creative presence as the source of our
daily bread. In our desire for forgiveness we look
to the Son as the redeemer. In our struggle with
evil we turn to the Spirit as our counselor.

When Jesus taught his disciples, he also unfolded a
historical dimension in their understanding of
God. In the past they had known the Father, but in
the present they meet Jesus and when he will
leave them, they will be under the care of his
Spirit. The Our Father also has a threefold time
dimension. We look back into our past to ask
forgiveness for our failures, we seek bread for
today and when we look to the future challenges,
we pray for strength to make the right decisions.
If we do not see the Father as creator, we cannot
share our daily bread; if Jesus is not our redeemer
we cannot forgive our neighbor; if the Spirit is not
our counselor, we will not always be able to make
the right decision.

enjoyable evening. Thank you to those who did the

Special Collection - Share the Mission
June 6/7
On the weekend of June 6 and 7 we are inviting you
to take part in the annual diocesan collection,
Share the Mission.
We are called to help each other as communities to
become missionary disciples! We do this by
supporting one another on all levels: in our actions,
through our prayers, and in our financial giving.
This special collection supports missionary action on
both a diocesan and parish level. Twenty percent of
the total donations raised by your parish will be
returned to the parish to be used for missionary
work at the local level.
Anniversary Schedule
Just a reminder about our celebration for the 100th
Anniversary of the foundation of St. Joseph's Church
and the 5th Anniversary of the establishment of Our
Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. The weekend of June
12, 13, and 14 will be a time of community
entertainment, fun and worship.
Friday, June 12, at 7 p.m. in St. Joseph's Hall our
Variety Show will include local musical talent, skits
and dance display. (A goodwill offering is suggested.)
Saturday, June 13, from 2 to 5 p.m. will be our Fun
Day ... fish pond, bean bag toss, bingo, photo booth,
face painting, a BBQ, a homemade pie tasting contest
and much, much more. There will be fun for all ages.
Sunday, June 14, at 10 a.m. we will celebrate Mass as
a worshipping community in St. Joseph's Church,
Shad Bay. This will be followed by a reception in St.
Joseph's Hall.
It is our hope that you will join us for some or all
of our weekend festivities. Please come and be a
part of our marking of these two important
milestones in our parish. We look forward to
seeing you!
Applause to All
Every event needs an organizer, but that person
cannot take all the credit for the success or even
the blame for the failure of an event. Our parish
yard sale was successful because of every person
who made a commitment. The ones who worked
behind the scenes … those who advertised the
event, those who donated and potted plants, those
who made bread and jam, those who worked in
the canteen, those who supplied trucks and those
who drove them to deliver items to and from the
church hall, those who donated items, those who
arranged the "treasures" for the sale, the sellers
and the buyers, the gang who set up the hall and
dismantled it, the parish money counters who had
to stay longer to count all that "extra money” … all
are vital parts of this event. The reward for all this
effort is not measured only in money terms. It is
measured in the laughter, friendship and support
which is given and received by those who work
together for a common goal. We are a team and
lucky to have each other.
Mary Jane Lundy was the winner of the 50/50
draw in the amount of $156. The grand total profit
for the sale is $3800.00 ... a job well done!
Thank you from the Yard Sale Committee

Preserving Bottles
Our resident Jam maker donates approximately
100 bottles of jam a year for our fund raisers. The
biggest cost to her is buying the bottles. If we
could return the size she uses it would help with
expenses. A container is in the back of the Church
which is a sample size of the bottle. Thank You

Personal Profile of The Forbriggers
Hello from the Forbriggers. We are Blair, Margaret,
Shane, Cameron and Josh. Blair and I are not originally
from this area.Blair was born in Glace Bay but grew up
in Dartmouth. My father was in the Air Force so I was
born in Ottawa and grew up all over Canada and the
States. We met in Dartmouth when we were in high
school. We both went to St. F. X. and TUNS and
graduated with Engineering degrees, me in Electrical
and Blair in Mechanical. We were married in 1988 and
in March of 1989 we moved into our first house on
Prospect Road in Hatchet Lake. All three of our boys
were born here. Shane and Cameron were baptised at
St. Christopher's and Josh at Our Lady Star of the Sea.
Blair joined the volunteer fire department shortly
after we moved to Hatchet Lake and I volunteered in
the Parish and in the boys' schools. I worked with
MT&T until Josh was born and then decided to stay at
home as a full time mom. Blair and I each taught
religious ed and I became the Religious Ed
Coordinator of St. Christopher's and Our Lady Star of
the Sea (OLSOS) and then co-coordinator for OLMC.
Our boys have grown up being a part of our
volunteering. They have been dragged to or
volun'told' that they had to go early and stay late at
events that we were helping with. They have seen
how much our Parish and community means to us and
how important we feel it is to help out and do our
part.
We have set the example for our boys but it will be
up to them and God how that gift manifests itself in
them. No one can make another person have Faith.
We didn't know anyone when we first moved here in
1989 but we were welcomed by the wonderful people
at St. Christopher’s Church and Our Lady Star of the Sea
and soon felt like we belonged. We will never forget the
people of OLSOS rushing to see our babies or get a
cushion for my mother, who has MS, to sit on. They
took such care in welcoming us. When we started going
to St. Joseph's we met even more wonderful people and
learned more about the other communities in our area.
It is a blessing to feel like we belong here and have been
adopted into our extended family of the OLMC parish.
We (OLMC Parish) have so much to be proud of and
treasure here.
One of my favorite quotes is by Albert Einstein :
"Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value."
Blair and I both grew up in Catholic families and have
wonderful examples of Faith in both families. This has
been a blessing but is only part of the story. In both of
our families we have siblings that are and are not
practicing Catholics. The witness of our parents and
grandparents was, and still is, very important, but our
Faith is a gift and luckily we were open to receiving it.
Our boys have grown up with this example also
and every Sunday since they could talk, their
grandfather has lovingly asked them what the Gospel
was about at Mass.
