Ticket cost is $50.00, which admits two adults and includes a dinner buffet, cocktails, entertainment and a drawing. The last ticket drawn wins $5,000.00. In addition, there will be cash awards and other prizes. This is Our Lady of the Rosary’s major annual fund raiser. Tickets are available at the parish office and at the scrip table in St. Norman’s Chapel after weekend Masses, or contact Rick Jobe (271-7419) or Kathy Fitzwater (238-3580). COOKING CLASSES – To all of our POND cooking class attendees. We all had a great time with the baking demo, didn’t we? More camaraderie to continue when the cooking demo on May 13 features a presentation by Blanca Schwendeman who will demo one of her Dad’s original Hispanic recipes, Pork Chipotle (smoked pork) and Spanish Rice, not to be confused with any watered-down imitations. There will be some surprise authentic bread or Hispanic dessert provided by Evans Bakery. Our final demo by Arlene Botenfield on May 29 will be an Italian theme. Details to follow. Mark your calendars. SPECIAL THANK YOU!! We wish to thank Bill and Rosemary Evans, former owners of Evan’s Bakery, for the informative and entertaining presentation for our cooking class on April 15th. They presented delicious recipes for shortbread cookies, pastry cream, and eclairs. We can now make our own or visit the bakery where their daughter, Jennifer, is carrying on the wonderful tradition of the special baked goods. It was a fun evening!! We look forward to the next class on April 29, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. with Michele LaFlame, who will be making Hungarian noodles (Csiga) and Hungarian Chicken Soup. Please RSVP to Lena at 233-3531 before the class so we have enough recipes and samples to share. OLR CHURCH DOORS – For several months, we have been investigating possibilities and options to repair or replace the front set of doors and the alley door to the church. Due to the age of the building and the complexity of the situation, it has been determined that the best option is to replace the doors. The estimate we received for steel doors, panic bars, all new hardware and installation for the four sets is $27,150.00. Our volunteers who operate the parish 50/50 raffle have worked hard at making this a successful fund raiser with proceeds designated towards this project. The bulletin of April 12th showed that as of that date, $11,313.23 has been raised. We are halfway there! Please know that each time you purchase a ticket, you contribute to our new doors plus – you just might be the winner!! 50/50 DRAWING APRIL RESULTS – Tickets sold = 86; Prize money = $430.00. Buy your ticket today and get in on the fun! OLR ALTAR ROSARY SOCIETY NEWS – We are sponsoring a “Bake-less Bake Sale” during the month of May. Instead of spending time and effort buying ingredients, preparing and baking items or buying items others donate – you donate the money you would have spent, directly to the OLR Altar Rosary Society. 100% of what is collected will be used for the continued restoration of the OLR Nativity Scene statues. Designated donation envelopes will be placed in the bulletin the first weekend in May and at the OLR Church doors. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated!! THANK YOU – The Family of Kris Kern would like to thank the Parishes of Old North Dayton for the prayers and support during Kris’s illness and funeral. The many friends who attended her services really touched us in a special way. We always looked forward to attending as many POND events as possible. Thanks, John, Caitlin and Cody Kern CLASS OF 1960 – We are looking for information on classmates from the 8th grade graduating class of OLR in 1960. If you have any information to provide, please contact Carolyn Maples (Waitzman) at 748-0324. We are planning a reunion for October of this year. Religious Education Opportunities The Lay Pastoral Ministry Program is coming to Dayton! Classes for the non-degreed Certificate in Ministry will meet at the Pilarczyk Center, 1436 Needmore Road, for two years beginning in August 2015. The program equips men and women to evangelize, catechize and serve more effectively while growing in faith, knowledge and skills. Saturday classes and flexible formation components enable students to maintain work and family obligations while discerning God’s call and preparing for new opportunities. For information, or to set up a personal interview, call or email Deacon Hal Belcher at 419-305-5486 or [email protected].
