They remember the nun with an Irish accent, the French priest with a bad temper or the sweet young Belgian brother who dedicated their lives to their Catholic upbringing giving them, on top of an excellent academic formation, moral certainties and a faith to move mountains. Since then generations have passed and Catholic schools went through a rather radical change so as to be hardly recognizable today. Where are the days when life at school was Christ-centred? Prayer before and after classes, trust in Jesus, Mary and Joseph, devotion to the saints, deep love for the faith and firm discipline - respect for elders: parents and superiors. Are all these things gone forever? By God’s grace, they are not; there exist schools where the timeless doctrine of the Church is still being taught and the perennial Catholic way of life on the agenda, schools were the main concern of the teachers is the sanctification of the pupils. Parish Life The result of these schools is marvelous. A simple chat with the boys and the girls from the parish who went to or still go to such schools(*) is enough to make you understand what a privilege and unique experience it is to be educated in a truly Catholic environment and how it deeply shapes a personality. Fortunate pupils, indeed, who are formed by priests, brothers and sisters who look after their souls guiding them on the way to holiness, helping them to know the Will of God and fulfil it. We will always be ready to support the parents who make the sacrifice to send their children to true Catholic schools and their educators too can count on us to offer them assistance so far as we are able to . Father Fabrice Loschi (*) Boys in La Salette, United States; girls in the Dominican schools in Post Falls, United States, or in Wanganui, New Zealand, or also the SSPX school in Schonenberg, Germany. ——————————— First Baptism of 2015. On Tuesday 13 January, feast of the Baptism of Our Lord, little Adrian Shen, son of Alson and Celine, was regenerated by the waters of Baptism. Our best wishes to this new child of God and to his happy parents! Fundraising. Thanks to the dedication of the organisers and the generosity of their customers, last Sunday Food Fair was a great success. Approx. $800 were raised to contribute to the building of the Dominican Convent in Tynong, Australia. Next appointment with the Saint Martha Committee: the Shrove Tuesday crepe party! One day a friend asked Napoleon: “What is most needed to win a battle?” Napoleon replied: “Three things are necessary for victory. The first one is money, the second one is money, and the third one is . . . Money.” On behalf of the Dominican Sisters of Wanganui, thank you for helping them win the battle!
