HUMAN TRAFFICKING FORUM
A Public Forum on the disturbing reality of human trafficking in San Diego
will be held at Our Mother of Confidence Church, 3131 Governor Drive on Monday,
May 11 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. All are welcome.
Human trafficking is a $32 billion-a-year global industry. San Diego ranks nine
nationwide in top destination areas. Our District Attorney says human trafficking is a
form of modern-day slavery where perpetrators profit from the sexual exploitation and
forced labor of men, women and children.
A panel discussion with Q&A from the audience will include Chief Deputy
District Attorney Summer Stephan, Presiding Juvenile Court Judge Carolyn Caietti, Department of
Homeland Security Special Agent Juan Jacobo, Public Defender Marian Gaston and Marisa Ugarte
from the Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition.
The forum will begin with a short film clip highlighting a human trafficking survivor. Light
refreshments will be served before and after the event. There is no fee. Please come to listen, learn,
discuss solutions and get involved. Invite friends and neighbors. For further information contact
Rob Moscato at 858-453-5785 or call 858-453-0222.
There will be an Usher’s Meeting on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 in
Serra Hall at 7:00 pm. The meeting will review Holy Week
services and requirements for the Ushers. If you are an usher please
plan on attending. There is a great deal of coordinating and
scheduling which must be done for the Triduum.
Our ushers are the face of OMC who warmly greet resident
parishioners and visitors from all over the world and the country.
Consider being an usher—you could be welcoming angels to
church. Contact Jack Beresford at 858-453-7695 or e-mail him at

PASTORAL DIRECTION
The Lesson of Water…
Water is per haps the most r emar kable element in natur e – and also the
simplest: two molecules of hydrogen, one molecule of oxygen. A sheet of water is
like a pane of glass – smooth, colorless, flawless. Dip your hand into it, bring it to
your lips – no smell, no taste. Yet every form of life – from the mighty oak to the
newborn babe – depends on it to survive.
Water is ageless. It falls from the sky as rain, fills the rivers and springs and
lakes, and returns to the clouds when it evaporates, and then falls again to nourish
the earth. And so it has since God first sent down rain to bless this newly created
world. Once rain falls on the earth – it is the same in the
north and south, in the east and west.
Water cleans and nourishes, refreshes and transforms. Water revives
the wilted plant and restores the parched traveler; it transforms the desert into a
garden. Water possesses the awesome power to wash away whole cities,
corrode iron into dust, and silence the wind. But water also possesses the
humility to caress the fragile flower and the smiling face of a child, to
disappear in the red of the rose, and white of the lily, the purple of the violet.
Water gives way to obstacles with deceptive humility: When confronted by insurmountable rock,
it seeks a new path – and yet, no power on earth can prevent it from its destined course to the sea. Water
conquers by yielding, never attacks, but always triumphs in the end. Learn the lesson of water. The wise
who make themselves water are distinguished for humility, embracing a spirit of life-giving purpose; they
can conquer the world.
