OCTAVE OF EASTER - DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
The Octave of Easter Sunday, Divine Mercy Sunday is based on visions recorded from St. Faustian
Kowalski. In 2000 it was decreed a solemnity, a high feast day, by Pope John Paul II. Divine Mercy Sunday occurs the Sunday after Easter and will be celebrated here at Our Mother of Confidence
Parish immediately after the 9:00AM
Mass. It will consists of praying and singing the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. It is a beautiful way of
praising God and thanking Him for His generous and bountiful MERCY.
HUMAN TRAFFICKING FORUM
A Public Forum on the disturbing reality of human trafficking in San Diego
will be held at Our Mother of Confidence Church, 3131 Governor Drive on Monday,
May 11 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. All are welcome.
Human trafficking is a $32 billion-a-year global industry. San Diego ranks nine
nationwide in top destination areas. Our District Attorney says human trafficking is a
form of modern-day slavery where perpetrators profit from the sexual exploitation and
forced labor of men, women and children.
A panel discussion with Q&A from the audience will include Chief Deputy
District Attorney Summer Stephan, Presiding Juvenile Court Judge Carolyn Caietti, Department of
Homeland Security Special Agent Juan Jacobo, Public Defender Marian Gaston and Marisa Ugarte
from the Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition.
The forum will begin with a short film clip highlighting a human trafficking survivor. Light
refreshments will be served before and after the event. There is no fee. Please come to listen, learn,
discuss solutions and get involved. Invite friends and neighbors. For further information contact
Rob Moscato at 858-453-5785 or call 858-453-0222.

PASTORAL DIRECTION
The Paschal Triduum (trih-dyoo-um), Latin for “three days, commemorates the essential features of our redemption: Christ’s Passion, Death and Resurrection.
Christian life makes sense only when each of these moments is linked to the other
two. For that reason, the Church celebrates the three days beginning the evening of
Holy Thursday as a single liturgical action. Beginning with the Mass of the Lord’s
Supper and concluding on Easter Sunday, the Triduum highlights and celebrates the
fullness of the Paschal Mystery that we experience in every Mass.
Day One – “The Son of Man must suffer greatly…” Luke 9:22
The Washing of the Feet during the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday
reminds us that Jesus freely chose to serve others, even to the point of giving his
whole life for us. He freely accepted his suffering out of love for us and obedience to the Father.
Day Two - “and be killed...” Luke 9:22
The death of Christ on the cross was real. In the subdued liturgical observances of Holy Saturday,
the Church gives us a long time to face up to that fact. Anyone who has lost a loved one to death knows
how very long it takes to accept the stark reality of death. In death, Jesus completed his embrace of the
human condition.
Day Three - “and on the third day be raised”
Luke 9:22.
Finally, the Resurrection of the Lord is celebrated as the high point of the liturgical year and the
pattern for Sunday Mass throughout the year. The Renewal of our baptismal promises on Easter reminds
us that in dying with Christ through baptism, so also do we share in his resurrection.
Concluding with Evening Mass on Easter Sunday, the Paschal Triduum opens the 50-day Easter Season.
TERMS
Catechumen is a per son who is lear ning about Chr istianity in pr epar ation for for mal entr y into the
Church.
Mandatum, the Latin wor d for commandant (r efer r ing to Chr ist’s command that we love one
another), is another term for the Washing of the Feet at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. Holy Thursday is
sometimes called “Maundy Thursday” because of this.
Triduum is the Latin tem meaning thr ee days. The Paschal Tr iduum is the thr ee days for Chr ist’s
Passion, Death and resurrection.
Service of Light takes place at the beginning of the Easter Vigil. The
new fire and the paschal candle are blessed, the candle is lit and all light
their candles from it. Honoring Christ as the light of the world, it concludes
with the singing of the Easter Proclamation.

PRAYER BEFORE THE CRUCIFIX DURING HOLY WEEK
Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus while before Your face I humbly kneel and,
with burning soul, pray and beseech You to fix deep in my heart lively sentiments of faith,
hope, and charity; true contrition for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment. While I
contemplate, with great love and tender pity, Your five most precious wounds, pondering
over them within me and calling to mind the words which David, Your prophet, said to
You, my Jesus: "They have pierced My hands and My feet, they have numbered all My
bones." AMEN

SOLAR SAVING FOR OMC!
We finally have the sun working
for us. The graph on the left
shows three figures for the six
months we have been on solar
power.
The BLUE BAR is what we
would been paying SDG&E
normally without any saving from
our solar system.
The RED BAR is what our solar
system paid for us.
The GREEN BAR is what we
actually paid.
The months represented are
October through March. Some
months we had very little sun and
so the saving wasn’t much. But
the other months our solar system
is paying half our bill. We have
also just received our first incentive check for $1,106.32 for the Kilowatts we have already produced and
we will continue to get these checks every two months for 5 years based on the kilowatts we continue to
produce. Praise God from whom all blessings come!
